How do you guys process the flower after cutting down your girls?
I tend to either chop it up and soak in 95% food grade ethanol or throw into my slow cooker with butter and water for a few hours. Kind of scared to dry it to smoke it, because the last time I did that, I guess I jarred too early cuz my flowers got moldy :((
But lately I started throwing in regular sized nugs into a paper grocery bag after a wet trim. I shake the bag a few times a day in my 21*C / 50% humidity grow room and jar the buds a day after they begin to get crispy (2-6 days).
It seems to me that drying and curing before making extracts (fat or alc) is pointless, maybe decarb step just takes a bit longer.
I am preferring eth extractions for cannabis because I can just reduce the oil/eth mix down until a modest amount of ethanol is leftover and then I can just mix that with soft drinks because I already enjoy alcohol. Fat-based edibles are fun but nailing the ratio of bud to butter is kind of annoying...

I have tried a few methods. Paper bag, drying them on a line, drying them on a screen, and putting them in an herb drier.

Just hang plants upside down or get a washing basket or cardboard box and use string to hang up nugs. If you want to sample fresh flower as quick as possible then use a pot of hot water and a plate, placing the ground up ere on the plate which dries very quickly and usable for edibles albeit diminished effects. The. Stem should snap when proper dry but you can get away with slight flexibility, so dark closet, sometime to hang dry or just rest on. Shouldn't take more than 4 days for a bud to be dry enough to use

my uncle in-law just lays them out in his garage with a fan going for a while to dry. pretty sure he puts them on cardboard. gets big smelly. he also grows a fuarking forest of the stuff.
after that he just jars it. it uses a lot of jars.

After harvesting I dry the whole plants, minus roots, for 12-16 days at 18c and 60 % humidity. When the flowers feels properly dried (not too moist or dry) I store them in curing containers. These can be bags made for the purpose or glass jars, etc. There are quite a few processes that happen both during drying and curing, I would not recommend doing extractions on raw flower unless you specifically want acidic forms of the cannabinoids. Terpene profile is "better" on live extracts though
