Recently ive been playing schedule one and the whole game has been great so far but id like to know, how realistic is it? Obviously, it'll be dumbed down for certain reasons but how different is it from real life?
The reason I bring this game up is because its kind of inspired me to start wanting to make my own weed as a hobby rather than getting it from others. I would not call myself a gardener, but what would I need to start my own little side project?
(Not for distribution of course)

There is no trick to growing weed, thats why they call it weed.
You just need to get some seeds and plant them, let it sprout in a good sunny place and water them when needed.
You need to isolate the female plants from the male ones so the flowers dont get inseminated.
Then when you got fat buds air dry them in a shady but dry place and then put them in airtight jar that is stored in a unlit place for two weeks to two months.

This is good to know, thank you.
I would really like to learn more about this whole process so,
Going into more detail, how do I go about obtaining seeds and how can I tell the difference between male and female plants. As for sun, I heard that people keep them under strong UV lights. I want to start growing but I have quiet a limited amount of space so are there any pot and UV light setup combos for this? Also, is there any other general plant keeping tips to keep in mind while growing the plants?

Tangentially related to this topic.
Some people were caught growing weed because they pointed high power lights at the plants in their basement, which resulted in huge draws from the electrical grid, and in other cases, they were caught because the environment in which they grew weed in the attic produced so much heat that it melted the snow on their rooftops.

Well there are a lot of guides on how to grow the perfect weed plant, i dont have any off hand so you will need to look on your own.
However there is really no magic to it, one time i saw a 4 meter tall plant in a garden, they are yearly plants so with right conditions they can get huge, but most of the time they grow like regular wild weeds.
I have seen people clone them and also trim them like bonsais, if you cut off the main stem they grow bushy, but usually they tend to grow tall.
As for seeds, lots of people grow them you can ask them for seeds or just buy them in shops, there are many shops nowdays or just get em of the internet.
Male plants are usually feeble and you can tell by the pollen sacks, they usually spread pollen out so if you see pollen powder on the leafs bellow them, whereas female flowers look like your typical weed bud, they have little hairs on them, you should see with bare eyes.
Also not single female plants sense when they are alone and self inseminate, its not unusual to get a few seeds from female plants, i often even found seeds when i bought weed to smoke.
If you never grown weed before just get some whatever seeds you can, no feminated or fancy ones, just natural seeds, pot them and do one grow to get more seeds and a feeling for the plant.
They are extremely sturdy and versitile plants, you should have no problems with them even if you dont know anything about gardening.

That is true, but you can compensate for that by having a accumulator hooked up, which you should anyway in case of power outages and modern day led glow lamps draw very little power.
That being said if this your first time its better to start outdoor and hide it among other plants, there are plants that look very similar and they are hard to differentiate even for experts, so if you are a bit clever about it you can grow weed right out in the open and nobody will suspect a thing.

Thank you both very much, I think I may know someone that could hook me up with a seed so ill try asking them.
As for growing outside I think thats very clever although I never have tried growing anything outside due to my location (Apartment) I will definitely try that in the future when my location allows for that. For now, however, Ill probably buy a decently sized indoor plant grower.
Since im starting off with a small scale (one grower), I dont think ill get caught since im not generating enough heat to melt snow off my roof, and its winter so I could make the excuse that im using a small heater or something lol.

Funny thing is, mining also radiates so much energy it may melt your rooftop snow. Living in a house with no gas connection - yet with a grid and a propate tank station - can be compensated by mining stuff and enjoying the excess heat. You just have to install funny electric heaters that radate as much heat as needed to reach a certain degree of heat.
I mean, that's how miners get the most unaccountable side profit - they get a cheap ungased house, use mining rigs as an addicional source of heat, they enjoy the dissipated heat *per se*
