Is weed brainrot
Lady 3Jane.. · 2024-07-04 15:14
Is Weed really just something that rots your brain? Like it makes you lack focus and the ability to grasp new concepts? Maybe even permanently?
Incognito · 2024-07-04 15:34
prob not permanently but it certainly doesn't help whilst you're on it

It atrophies part of the brain but it doesnt seem to have detrimental effect since other parts of the brain appear to take over and is reversible. It does have a negative effect on memory in younger people and positive effect on memory in older people. Probably not good to do while young. Im not sure the exact age this shifts though since ive only seen a rodent study on this and anecdotal evidence. It depends on your endocannabinoid levels. It also isnt good if you have mental illness problems though mainly schizophrenia and bipolar.
The Phantom Phreak · 2024-07-05 06:46
I don't smoke alot or bake'n eat alot to feel any different compared to my past self so i'll go with no at least not permanently. I haven't tried learning something new while on it but I imagine if it's like learning a new recipe i could prolly do it and learn it fine unlike learning something more abstract like a new math/programming theory I vaguely heard of. Shit I kinda wanna test that theory now.

Sort of my last resort... I need help figuring out what the 'typical' effects of THC/CBD oil are supposed to be. The online discourse I've come across regarding cannabis is filled with jargon that I don't understand. What does a 'high' feel like? What is it supposed to feel like?
I've been given an oil with equal parts THC & CBD. Sub 0.7 ml dosages have no perceptible effects. At 0.7 ml the sensation is unpredictable. Out of around 30 dosages 3 were beneficial, with the other 27 times I felt dissociated. Rough numbers, but that's the trend. When it did a have a good effect the change was so profound. I felt calm. It felt like I could think for the first time in my life. I could recall memories of my past, which previously had been a black hole. I now had emotions. I can't emphasize enough how different it made me feel. I felt what I imagine normal people feel. I felt normal, but getting there was so dramatic. It felt as if I had woken up from sleep. As different as dreaming is from waking, that's how different it felt. Is this what feeling 'high' is supposed to feel like? Did I get high, or was I able to relax?
I've been told I have cptsd and a personality disorder, and there's a history of mental illness in the family. It's bad. I'm so confused right now, because I think I've been dissociated my whole life. I think the cannabis forces the body to relax, and allows me to process some of the past trauma. But there's a part of me that thinks that's a lie. That the cannabis just dissociates me even more. I don't know what to think any more. I'm slightly concerned I might have brain damage from a previous suicide attempt. I'm also taking prozac, which I think is needed to help achieve this 'good' effect.
Seeing a professional seems pointless. I can't communicate effectively, and we get stuck talking in circles. It's not an option right now anyway. It's too expensive, too infrequent (talking to someone for half an hour once a month lmao wtf is that going to achieve).
I'm a shell of a person, and I've been spiraling down. This has been the only thing that has had any positive effect. I've been on a variety of antipsychotics and antidepressants. Nothing. No good effects. I'm currently taking Prozac and a CBD dominant oil (0.7ml to 1.0ml, sometimes twice a day). Sometimes it seems to help, other times it seems to have no effect, and then other times it seems to make me even more dissociative than I already was. But when it does help, oh my god, it's life changing. I feel like I'm actually in control of my body.
I'm so isolated. I can't talk to anyone in real life. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Am I rotting my brain.

Does depression rot the brain? Yes, definitely
Does anxiety rot the brain? Yes, definitely
Does lack of sleep rot the brain? Yes, definitely
Does it ruin life if you can't enjoy anything or be interested in anything? Yes, definitely
Does weed rot the brain? There is no strong evidence of that, so at worst it has some mild effect. But it also counteracts other things that are definitely damaging. If you suffer from those other issues then I strongly believe it can be helpful for some people when used intelligently as a tool.
>Like it makes you lack focus and the ability to grasp new concepts? Maybe even permanently?
That's not my experience at all. Only things i'd worry about is short-term memory

My experience of prozac is that it will be impossible for you to think on a deep, spiritual level. You will be left in a disturbing fog as long as you keep taking it, and you may be left with permanent brain damage. Stop taking SSRIs

>is weed brainrot?
I personally find that my ability to think really deeply or do anything technical is impaired on weed in a way that it isn't while on alcohol, even though alcohol is definitely brainrot in the literal sense of the word. But it wears off quickly unless I'm stoned all the time. I know some people who have the exact opposite experience.
I also have an absolute swiss cheese memory and I think probably it was caused by heavy weed use in college. I did pretty well in college though and I have reason to believe I'm competent in my field of choice. I don't smoke much any more, and when I do it's usually a very small dose with my gf.

you should try LSD microdosing (5-10 micrograms taken every 3 days). It did wonders for my mental health. Not perfect -- I was definitely twitchy and a little out of it on my "on" days -- but the general alertness and eagerness for life I felt was amazing. And it massively potentiates pretty much every other drug including weed.

In general, what has been seen, marijuana generates short-term memory problems, which is not something that is disabling, but there are people who find this bothersome. Likewise, I have heard that this is reversible by stopping consuming, although I do not have any proof about any of these. two things.
Also keep in mind that consuming responsibly is not the same as consuming chronically.

I frequently would forget I had microdosed that morning, and would be reminded when the effects started. I'm willing to do a placebo controlled trial to see if I can tell the difference. I am quite confident I could.

Worth nothing that I was typically doing 10 micrograms. 15 sometimes and I think that was my typical dose for a few weeks, but it was too much.

not that lain
It's not inconceivable that 10-15mcg would be helpful. I've taken ~30mcg and had undeniable invigorating effects and a psychedelic headspace that was only a bit too intense to be functional for any serious work.
but I would think that the tolerance would negate any effects after 3 or 4 doses. People were given heroic doses of acid every day for months during the CIA trials and after the first few days it stopped affecting them. And I know from personal experience that if I trip on one day, then again two days later, I have to double my dose to get a comparable trip.
H.R. Giger · 2024-07-19 15:34

That's why they are spaced 3 days apart. The tolerance effect is less substantial with lower doses -- heroic trips have significant aftereffects for multiple days.

Erowid.org is a good website to inform yourself on the effects of a drug + the onset, plateau, dosing etc.
Cannabis can be found here
https://erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_effects.shtml
However, in your case, you're combining them with SSRI's and, if i'm not mistaken, both Cannabis and SSRI effect the serotonine receptors in your brain, meaning that it's almost certainly so you are not having a pure experience of one drug, but a combined effect of both.

Not as badly as masturbation does, been comparing the effects. Abstaining will counterbalance any negative effects from the weed and you might even have better focus and ability to grasp new concepts, then not doing weed and masturbating. Just something I have noticed.
Ivan Petrov · 2024-08-26 08:00
Depends, i smoke hashish. My experience is peculiar, as i am addicted to it in the same way tobacco got me hooked. The difference would be tolerance, i smoke a lot and it chills me but not enough to get me high. It rots your brain if it is the only thing you do, but if you use while also aware of building up tolerance you'll get pretty high. It doesn't solve anything by the way, but if you use it casualy (without being daily or even weekly use) it is the same as getting drunk. Just don't smoke weed like a tobacco habit.
Spooky · 2024-08-26 08:11
I doubt it's permanent, the brain is constantly adapting kinda like skin, you can get deep boils or cuts but eventually it will heal over with little to no scar. This whole "have I permanently fuarrrked up" is just an anxiety loop unless you have genuine brain trauma like from a car crash then there is not much to worry about.

been smoking eating and vaping weed and its derivatives as well as various synthetic cannabinoids for 17 years straight. in conclusion it definitely has the strong potential to become brainrot when used as an intentional form of brainrot. I have also noticed certain people have a greater propensity to have it develop into something that creates brain rot more than others, for example some people I know have smoked weed for years and are very productive while they use it, other people I know (myself included are highly unproductive when using it). sometimes when im lazy and using weed it spawns me onto wanting to enjoy more brain rot (or as I prefer to call it guy slop) activities, something that alcohol and benzodiazapenes are notorious for. So is weed brainrot, idk, it can be depending on how its used, by who, when, how, and why.

Good posts. My friend that got me into it convinced me to try it when he just infodump about his experience with all the drugs he tried and concluded that, unless you want to be addicted to it, it is hard to get addicted to it. (and by extension, go stupid) Had a blast. Haven't touched it in a long while. Don't think my abilities suffered at all.
Though, if anyone lurking here under 21 y/o is looking at this post for some reason, don't try it yet. Your mind is still developing. One smoke session with the boys won't fuarrrk you up but you are more impressionable at this stage. It's gonna be easier to hook you onto it. Not as much as Nicotine will however.
(I'm just reciting this from the fearmongering i heard about substances when the brain the developing. I don't know if weed applies to it and I doubt the problems that may arise are that severe.)

I don't know if there is something scientifically about it, but everyone i know who smokes everyday gets a little bit retarded and lethargic. But when they stop they recover easily.
I use hash with booze once a week and don't feel any effects besides on the next day.
Erik Johansson · 2025-02-05 18:59
overuse of weed absolutely stunts the mind. especially so the younger you are. if you smoke once or more per day you may very well be dependent on it. maybe its useful in your life / not a terrible vice given the tradeoffs. but if you struggle with social withdrawal or emotional issues you might want to consider cultivating a sober lifestyle (alcohol is worse for you and harder to dump once it becomes a problem). it may not be easy but its worth the effort.
im relatively young, smoked very frequently for a few years, have been off it for half a year now and had a break of similar length a couple years ago. i can tell amongst those i know who has a worse relationship with it than others. selfishly i want to go back some day but thats because i like having the button to turn my brain off ! good for creativity, sorta-maybe-not good for my mood, bad for my memory, thinking skills, and lungs

I smoked every day for years and can confirm this.
Starting to develop throat issues, so i decided im going to stop, smoking is soykaf anyway to be honest(wasteful, disgusting, soykaf flavor etc)
Im trying to find alternatives to smoking that are viable for me.
Weed is very difficult to describe and quanitfy, in my experience every person reacts in different ways to it.
I smoked so much weed i should be braindead by now if it were as toxic as some people claim, i would say its the tobbacco side effects that also cause signifficant issues.
