First time taking shrooms
Dox · 2018-03-10 04:14
Some friends and I plan to take some magic mushrooms in a weeks time. I honestly am slightly excited, however I do not know what to expect, and I worry that I could possibly develop long term side effects or mental illness (despite the fact that I have little family history of mental illness) ; what is the likelihood of that happening?
We're trying to be prepared, having a sober friend watch us. making sure everything is comfy, were isolated for 6+ hours, etc. Is there anything else we should plan for or worry about?
Marly Krushkhova · 2018-03-10 06:59
They're one of the safest things you can take.
My waifu's first few trips were really terrible directly because of the trying to be ultra prepared thing.
There is no way you will ever be prepared or have any idea what you're in for, but that's totally fine.
Avoiding getting it in your head that there are things you absolutely have to do or try - Just go with your desires as they come while there.
Having a babysitter isn't really necessary, but maybe you can get them to drive you to a park or go on a hike or something.
My waifu highly recommends going outside, at least for some of it.
Stay warm, stay hydrated.
Humans have been doing this since before we were humans man, nothing to worry about - You got this.
Dox · 2018-03-10 20:54
mushrooms won't make you crazy unless you really abuse them.
Just chill and let things develop as they may. I recommend not thinking about the outside world or "how the trip is going" very much, at best it distracts you and at worse it can throw the entire trip out of whack.

I'm on antidepressants and antipsychotics (20mg fluoxetine and 5mg olanzapine to be specific). Will there be any interactions with the shrooms?
grimes · 2018-05-31 10:10
>>1817
I cannot speak for shrooms, but olanzapine completely nullified the effects of 25I-NBOMe for me. Don't be surprised if you get nothing out of the shrooms, but also don't take an epic dose trying to counter the olanzapine (that would be stupid). Taking a break from olanzapine for at least a week seemed to be enough time to get it out of my system
Fluoxetine should have no effect
Agent Smith · 2018-06-03 02:10
>>1817
i used to take olanzapine when i tripped to hard on acid..
also i'v seen a guy trying to jump out of a window on shrooms, but we found out later that he was diagnosed with schizophrenia..
so good and bad news, good news:you'v got a exit for every case
bad:the shrooms could not work
or worde:you end up psychotic..
if you end up fuarrrked up use your babysitter and eat chocolate, fruits, stuff like that.
and don't try to fight it
Sabo Engle · 2018-09-14 11:03
I'm in a similar situation. Me and my gf want to try mushrooms for the first time, she's depressive and she's been taking antidepressants for a long time, it would be great if microdosing could help her out.
What variety should we get? I was thinking about golden teachers since they're one of the most common. Should we start with a normal trip or try microdosing instead? Should she stop taking antidepressants for a while to avoid side effects? How much control do you have over youself? I don't want her to harm herself in any way.
Joey · 2018-09-14 16:04
>>2572
It depends on what antidepressants she's on.
SSRI's and serotonin-releasing psychedelics are a no go, for fear of serotonin syndrome / seizures. (the big risky ones are MDMA and friends, DXM, and MOAI's)
Originally I had tryptamines (read: mushrooms), lysergides, and other "traditional" psychedelics on that list, but per (http://bluelight.org/vb/archive/index.php/t-653140.html) I've decided that the risk of SS with those drugs is largely overstated.
Basically anything that is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor is a bad idea to mix with serotonin releasing psychs, so SNRI's, SDRI's, SNDRI's, etc you get the idea are all to be avoided.
That all aside, the most common outcome of mixing SSRI's and mushrooms seems to be a waste of good mushrooms, as you won't feel it or will only feel very little.
tl;dr:
If not on a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, have a party and go wild. Otherwise:
Option A) Start with a normal dose, it might do nothing for her but don't redose. Every 2-3 weeks try a larger dose (1.5 times larger is ok probably) and taper up until you find a good range, enjoy the trip.
Option B) Taper off the S(_)RI, then trip normally.
Best of luck.

Oh forgot to mention:
>how much control?
Basically total. On any weak to decently strong trip you generally know who you, what's going on, what you are doing. Your perceptions might be wildly warped but you won't accidentally stab someone or anything stupid like that. Don't trip and drive, simply because you are liable to forget you are driving while staring at how beautiful the world is.
Important note: beyond a certain point, things start to get a little more wild. On crazy strong trips you will still have control over yourself, but your sensory input and internal thoughts will be changed enough that "control" becomes a loose sort of word. Again, you aren't going to jump out of a window or commit a crime, you just might have trouble walking around or thinking "straight", in which case you just gotta flow with the trip and relax.
Also if you are really worried having one of you on a lower dose or just sober as a sitter the first time might be a good idea. Or a sober friend who's used mushrooms before that respects you / you and your gf both respect and trust.
Check out psychonautwiki for other good advice, and erowid if you want to know what to expect.

Thank you so much, my gf takes 100mg Venlafaxine (SNRI), so that would be a no-no. Even if the risk is small it's one of those things where fuarrrking up means a lot of explaining and nasty consequences. I'll tell her to stop for a while (she can get by if things are going well) if she wants to try.

It's me again. I bought one of those tupperware kits, I haven't used it yet and it has some white fluff and a green spot, does this mean it's contaminated? Should I ask for a refund or should I ignore this?
I just recieved it today in the mail, can I wait a couple of weeks before using it, or should I use it right away?

Spoiler: it's a total loss. It happens. You should carefully dispose of the contaminated substrate and try again with proper sterilization techniques.

yeah, it's fuarrrked. do a PF tek from spores. I am not familiar with that tupperware method, but I don't see how it can be sterile when that would melt at sterilization temperatures.

Welp, you guys were right, I tried to give it some time but now it looks like soykaf.
I followed all sterilization instructions, washed my hands up to the elbow and used latex gloves. Maybe it was fuarrrked from the start or there were spores in the air of my old apartment, I'll try cheaper alternatives with sterilized glass containers. This is the first and last time I buy a kit.
John Titor · 2018-10-03 13:46

I contacted the supplier and they agreed to send me a new kit for free. When I opened the kit I noticed this one had almost no smell at all, while the other had a strong smell, which at first thought was the substrate or some chemical, but now I think the smell came from being contaminated.
Anyway, I cleaned everything again and now I'm doing a few things different, I used >0.1% peroxide to fill the kit, and I'm using 1% for misting. I'm also using a box instead of a plastic bag. I'll keep posting updates if people are interested.

I hope I didn't kill the spores with the 0.1% peroxide-water mix.
In hindsight, I think I shouldn't have added it, but I feared it was contaminated too.
12 hours later there's no sign of mold like with the first kit, but there isn't any sign of mycelium either, it seems to take a while to develop, so until then I won't know if I messed up, I hope not, this is becoming frustrating, I'm making too many stupid mistakes.

That's a lot of useful info, thank you!

It took almost a week before seeing any sign of life, I worried about having killed the spores. The 7th day I started seeing little caps, this is around 10 days after I started, once they become visible they grow very fast.
I should start looking for a method to dry them.
Sage because anons might not be interested and this isn't even my own thread.

Bump, i got my hands on some, friend who gave them to me said to try and feel my way up.
No idea how strong exactly they are.
I prefered taking them outdoors in summer but in many ways its now or next year, which basically also amounts to taking it indoors and chilling it at home with movies and music and whatnot.
My question now would be is this a good idea for a first time trip?
Despite having read and heard many things about shrooms im still a bit uncertain on how to prepare here.
I will only take a small does anyhow since i have no idea how strong the stuff is.
Perhaps im just overthinking it here.
Thanks for any input.

take half an eighth. It's generally bad to plan out a trip unless it's absolutely necessary. Just take them and see where you end up.
The Plague · 2018-10-16 05:21

this. the only real plan you should have is a safe place to return to and a tripsitter ideally. Also mentally prepare yourself with the comforting knowledge that if you have to just sit down for 4 hours you can do that.
theres times i went out and my vision got so fuarrrked I couldnt get back and I knew "okay I can just sit at this park bench and wait it out" and that helped me not freak massively. In my experience shrooms vs acid though, while similar, you can "control" acid. Shrooms kind of just take you for a ride, the more you can just consent to the confusion of the experience the better. With acid my brains going a mile a minute, with shrooms I often cant think of anything at all really. And there is a comfort in that.

Also good vibes and fresh herbal tea to gulp it down.

I've started collecting them, I've tried a homemade dessicator with silica packs, seems to work well, but it seems it'll take a long time to dry the mushrooms. I reactivate the packs in the microwave to save some energy.
Some places recommend collecting all at once to avoid contamination, but I'm waiting until they grow a little bigger, just after the veil breaks.
Arisu Mizuki · 2018-10-21 17:51

This is the first batch, it was around 60 grams before drying them, now they're around 18 grams, it'll take some time to get them crisp-dry.
I've already started the process again, there are no signs of contamination yet.
Just as a curiosity, they strongly smell like a wet dog, not the greatest smell.

I need help, guys.
I don't take any kind of medicine or anything, but last week I tried 3 grams of dried silocybe cubensis and it had no major effects on me, just a slightly high effect same as cannabis. All I can think about that might have reduced the effects is the chocolate milk I drank after eating she 'shrooms. Can you guys confirm that chocolate milk does that?

Hi >>2721 here.
I had the same experience with 2g shrooms, felt like drunk but that was it.
I had way stronger experiences with thc to be honest, i wonder what gives.
It happens more than we think appearently, reading from some other sites.

no, it does not.
Shrooms can vary a lot wrt how much is actually in the mushrooms. You can trip hard off 1.5g or not at all off 3g, it depends on the individual mushrooms you eat. That's why it's generally not a good idea to take larger doses unless you're prepared for the possibility if a heroic dose.
Cereal Killer · 2018-10-26 14:58
I took mushrooms yesterday for the first time, everything went pretty good. I took around 2 grams (dry), although I can't really measure it since I don't have a scale with that amount of precission. I took 3 large ones and a bunch of tiny ones. It was a really long trip, starting feeling the effects at 3:40pm and fully ended around 10pm.
I first started feeling like drunk or on weed, I got the "breathing walls" effect, it was really cool, things started to look like a soft version of google's deep dream.
I felt like my emotions had been amplified by 10, something vaguely funny made me laugh out loud, music changed my state of mind depending on the track, a suspicious shadow sent shivers down my spine, and it gave me a new perspective on my life and my relationships with others.
After that I couldn't stop thinking about fractals, I felt like everything was part of an extremely complex and multidimensional fractal, and the universe was just a big machine, I was totally convinced everything was deterministic and felt bad about it.
When the trip started wearing down I felt drunk and high, by 10pm it was completely gone, I took a hot shower and had something to eat, I didn't feel wasted or tired, I changed my bedsheets and had a comfy sleep.
This morning I've woken up like always, there's no hangover, I kinda feel refreshed, but it's not too obvious, I'm in a good mood.
The only complaint I have is the duration, it kinda gets tiresome, specially during the last hours. I also had some trouble breathing during the peak, like there was a weight on my chest, it was annoying, but it didn't cause me anxiety. My muscles were also a bit weak. My eyes were watery and my nose a bit runny, but it wasn't too annoying.
Other than that it was a 10/10 experience and I would do it again.
Acid Burn · 2018-10-29 17:13
My first trip was a few months ago, took about a gram, just for something light to see what I was getting into and even just that was fantastic. It was mostly a body high, though one completely different from the weed I was on, after a while the shadows on the floor just seemed like extremely complex, but meaningless patterns, the trees waved around. Everything was nice.
The following month was spent questionning the concepts of reality and preception and expanding the mind.
Bought a 7 the other day, just waiting on the weather for a real proper trip, see how much farther I can grow the soul.

yes, also if you're taking antipsychotics this implies that you have a psychotic malady.
Psychedellics are not recommended for people with this sort of affection as they can trigger some bad things.

Antypsychotics are also be used to treat depression or anxiety. If that's his case I'd give mushrooms a try, since they've been proven to help with depression. If he has a history of psychotic disorders in his family I'd avoid it.

stop taking them for a while before you trip. They will probably nullify effects. But also, keep them handy for if you have a bad trip, antipsychotics can terminate a psychedelic trip.
Many people with some form of schizoid disorder take psychedelics and find they enjoy it and are able to handle it as well as other people. If you're dealing with the psychosis well, you should be fine.

Speaking from experience, I had the loneliest feeling possible on a shroom comedown, I had to be in constant connection with my mates to keep me from drifting away into pure loneliness. And I am a really positive person overall, although I can't say if being depressed/schizoid will exacerbate the feelings or not. I would not do a heavy dose while alone/in a dumb place (where your juices aren'ẗ flowing, your mojo isn't cool, bad memories attached etc.) if I was having trouble dealing with reality as it is, unless the place you trip in is a good vibes only location.
Can't stress the importance of the people you sit with and the place you sit in. A cabin in the woods is pretty optimal in my experience, depending on what you're looking for.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2018-12-22 13:03
I've tried mushrooms before, and I was totally aware of my surroundings, albeit my emotions were amplified and my senses were distorted.
I came across this video, and got me thinking if this guy knew what he did, or he was truly out of his mind.
