Desalinating cooking wine
Splicer · 2018-02-17 23:18
Just found out it's super cheap to get cooking wine from chinese grocery stores
It's 15% alcohol, but has 1% salt in it so it's undrinkable.
Does anyone here have any experience with distillation or anything for making this soykaf palatable for the lainanon on a budet?

Just heat it up with a rubber tube leading to another container. Possibly cool it. Alcohol vaporizes much easier than water, so you'll get the alcohol. Forget the taste though.

Have you thought about just smoking weed instead op

I recommend stilling it as >>1340 suggests.
The general idea is to buy a pressure cooker, pop out the rubber safety valve/weight/etc., attach some tubing in its place, then run that into another pot. (see first picture)
(second photo is not mine, but shows the general idea pretty well)
Best of luck!

Hi lain,
I was a moonshiner through the second half of my freshman year and all of my sophomore year of college. I stopped because in the end it was just for fun and lulz, but I had a great time.
I bought a $100 chemical distilation set from an academic supplier and simply sat the "in" flask on my electric stove burner.
Thing to know:
- you can choose not to have an electric water recirculatot on such a setup, but its more work.
- you absolutely want the condenser tube type that is curly, rather than straight *especially* if you're moving the cooling water through by hand
- you really really need to throw out the heads (methanol) if you're working with alcohol you brewed yourself (which is easy as soykaf). This is the first bit of alcohol that comes over, and you can tell the difference by taste. Methanol is delicious (like, mouth-watering) but it gives you brain damage. If you leave it in you will get headaches while you're still drunk.
- after you've practiced with bought stuff, start homebrewing: buy a gallon of apple/grape/orange juice, pour out two cups, add two cups of sugar boiled into two cups of water, let it cool, add bread yeast (bread yeast and champagne yeast are the same species bred for different purposes, so long as you're distilling or have low standards for flavor bread yeast is fine). It takes two weeks and costs like $3 for a gallon of hooch which is like ~10% alcohol.
I'd post more but i have to go to class and try not to ogle my networks professor as she mangles the English language.

Jesus Christ just buy a kit and brew your own wine.

This. If you're actually a cheap fuarrrk and not just underage (which is exactly how someone asking about buying and distilling cooking wine into something drinkable comes off as) brewing your own is way easier. Get something you can comfortably hold 1-3 gallons of liquid in, dump in a buttload of sugar, add baking yeast, and let sit for a few weeks. It'll taste awful but be around 15-20% alcohol by concentration and will get you fuarrrked up on a budget. Not as dangerous as drinking cooking wine either.
I have to ask though; why cooking wine? You do know that there's cheap budget brand alcohol out there that isn't cooking wine, right?

Even better than wine, brew your own mead. People drank mead all the time for hundreds of years, it's super easy to make just honey + yeast + water. And it actually tastes good unlike other basic home-brews.
here's a pretty good video to get you started

I'm going to agree with the others. Making your own is far easier. All you need is sugar, water, a balloon, baker's yeast, super glue, and a two liter bottle.

I don't recommend copying >>1388 unless making spirits is legal where you live.
