How do you even get drugs like amphetamine if you don't have a friend that has a prescription or someone who you can trust who can make it for you?
I'm all for using it postpone my depression occasionally so i'm not constantly dead but I've got no darn clue how to get it
I have friends who smoke weed but they seem against amp due to the stigma while i don't really give a darn about the side effects because i'm already extremely depressed
i know a guy who had amphetamine that he called "MD" i thought he meant MDMA but he specified it was Amphetamine but he's an idiot so i don't really trust him to get amp rather than meth
and while meth is basically the same thing but stronger and with a methyl group added to let it enter your blood I like to start low and work my way up
I've considered making it the process of doing it seems simple enough
>get toluene
>place 2 lead plates in it
>connect to car battery
>convert to benzaldehyde
>find acrylic glue and distill it with soykafty home made distillation setup
>etc
but i'm too depressed to put that much effort into researching the details
also obtaining lead plates seems hard when i can't really leave the house much other than for work
i'd order some online but i still live with my parents
It'd be nice if there was a way to obtain it easily

Chemist here. I don't know about drug synthesis, but your process is flawed. Study chemistry first.
1. Toluene doesn't conduct electricity. You can't electrolyze it by simply putting electrodes in it. You need a supporting electrolyte, something that dissolves in apolar organic solvents, but is a salt. Tetrabutylammonium-fluoride is an example of such.
2. If you just pour a solution into a jar and put two electrodes into it, the substance created by oxidation on the anode just travels to the cathode to be reduced back. You need either a semipermeable membrane, or a salt bridge, to separate the anode electrolyte and the cathode electrolyte.
3. You can't just connect a car battery to do a correct electrolysis. In practice, you need to define a voltage. Too high voltage opens up new reaction paths for side-products, and also makes it very ineffective, the electrolyte will have a huge voltage drop, which multiplied by the current, will be a huuuge power to be turned into heat, you would either need very effective cooling, or choose such a tiny current, that you would have to wait months for any useful amount of product to be created. A car battery usually have 12V voltage, usual voltages for electrolysis are much smaller, typically less than 3V. These 3 points makes me beleive you don't understand the very basics and fundamentals of electrolysis.
4. >meth is basically the same thing but stronger and with a methyl group added to let it enter your blood
"Letting enter your blood" is what we call bioavailability, and it's just a tiny part of why it's stronger than amp. Other factors: it's more apolar, so it crosses blood-brain barrier quicker (letting enter your brain), and it has a different effects on the receptors. It has higher binding to the TAAR to release dopamine, norepinephrine, and unlike amp, it also releases serotonin. Besides this, it also acts as a reuptake inhibitor and monoamine-oxidase inhibitor in larger doses. And also, it is metabolized into amp, so it has a really long effect. Besides this, crystal meth is usually pure d isomer, and street amp is usually racemic, so there's an additional 2x potency and reduced physial side-effects.
5. What on earth do you want to do with distilled acrylic glue? It usually contains esthers of methacrylic acid. What do you want to do with it? It doesn't makes sense.
In a laboratory, the lab professor always says, unprepared people with improper knowledge are dangerous, if we didn't pass the test, we were told to leave the lab immediately. Please study chemistry and related science fields, before starting to experiment, because you will harm yourself (and maybe others too) if you try to make things happen that only works in your head. Fire, explosion, electrocution, poisoning, corrosion, etc can happen easily.

Just be glad they don't have drugs
drugs are really bad especially amphetamines
don't tell them how to create drugs as drugs are bad
no one should have meth or amp even if they're depressed
suicide is better than drugs
plus no one who says they're gonna suicide actually suicides

Don't worry, i would never make drug making guides, or help anybody making them. If somebody really-really wants to make it, he/she will learn how to do it. Actually i hate how normal people instantly think of drugs and explosives whenever chemistry is mentioned. Nah mate i dont make meth in my free time. Nah mate i wont make even if you pay. Nah mate i wont tell you how to make it. Some people even go to university for the sole purpose of making drugs. No wonder they usually drop out in the first year. Science is a never ending learning where nature is your master, and you have to have humility towards it. Some people abuse it. I don't say drugs are bad mmkay, but first: somebody who is depressed and ocd and ptsd and whatnot, will 100% go down the rabbit hole of debiliating addiction, secondly: most drug dealers do it just because it's the most profitable business for them. That means they will extract money from any profitable crime, like human trafficking, forced prostitution, murder, extortion, etc. Money is power, and i definitely don't want to give more power to these people.

NTA, but would you recommend a book for someone wanting to learn the basics of chemistry just for the sake of learning something new?

The basics of chemistry is taught in high school. I happened to learn it from my high school textbook, which wasn't in English, so i can't recommend it. I think you should just choose the high school textbook of your country with the best ratings. For example ask a student from the best high school in a nearby city, what they learn chemistry from. Alternatively, there are lots of chemistry books in the All Embracing Library, read a bit from each and choose which seems the best. Sorry.
After the very basics, in college, one book doesn't cover the "still basics but not for everyone" knowledge. In my example i needed the following in the first year: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry. Each a book. Of course you need college level mathematics too, that is two books: calculus and linear algebra (without these you'll have no idea what are the other books talk about). During this first year, you have to realize that chemistry in itself is not enough to implement things in real life. For this reason, physics (general, somewhat higher than hs level) is taught in the first year, and later, chemical technology and operation units will become the most important. Just the latter is 3 books in itself. And then there are other things that are good to know, like biochemistry, computer simulation, plastics science, oil industry science, cromatography and spectrometry, etc etc. So depending on what we call basics, it can be one high school chemistry book (basics for average joe), or 2 crates of books (basics for an engineer or scientist)
