What am I in for? Just got them for anxiety. Anyone have any experience with them?

It's a benzo derivative. You will always need higher doses, they are horrible to come off from and fuarrrk up your body. If you are fine with that then they will probably work for a bit

Is it something that works immediately or do I have to take it several days in a row for it to take effect. My psychiatrist did say it would help me for an event tomorrow but she also said it was not strong.

I don't have any personal experience with mexazolam but I use benzos from time to time. Benzos and benzodiazepine derivatives are very effective and their biggest side-effect is the risk of addiction (but I'm also pretty sure that they have other bad effects on health in the long-term). Mexazolam is very similar to a benzo (it works through same mechanism of action). Compare how imovane is a Z-drug but works through same mechanism as benzo and they have the exact same risks and side-effects as benzos.
Also:
"... Its principal active metabolites are chlordesmethyldiazepam (also known as chloronordiazepam or delorazepam, trade name Dadumir) and chloroxazepam (also known as lorazepam, trade name Ativan)..."

Lorazepam is a benzo and it works very well but it's also more potent than e.g. oxazepam (which is considered to be one of least potent benzos). The downside of lorazepam is that it makes you lethargic and it relaxes your muscles a bit. I highly recommend you test Mexazolam on a day where you don't need to do anything important or drive a car to test how it personally affects you. Don't drink any alcohol if you have taken benzos or benzodiazepine derivatives. Avoid Xanax, if you decide to switch drugs. According to many (ex-)users, benzos with a short elimination half-life tend to cause more severe addiction/withdrawal symptoms.

Benzos (and derivatives) work quickly. It should start working within 1 hour.

There is 1 study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4381915/) that claims that it's as effective as Xanax: "controlled studies directly comparing mexazolam with other BZDs showed that the drug is more effective than bromazepam and oxazolam, and is at least as effective as alprazolam." I find this claim dubious but in my opinion it seems like mexazolam is similar to a benzo with (at least) medium potency.
