"Kid vision"

I can't do psychedelics anymore because marijuana triggered schizophrenia in me, and that's the only drug I've ever done, but I learned some things during the period of my life when I smoked. One important thing that I experienced was after I would meditate I would go outside and inhale and the air "smelled like I was four", as I'd put it. The world was also HD from a sight perspective (which I called "kid vision"). I've done some research over the years since then and found a few things that cause this heightened sense of awareness:
>Being a child
>Psychedelics
>Meditation
>Near-death experiences
On the topic of NDEs, I saw a bit about a guy sho skied off a cliff and said once he was convinced he was going to die he felt "bliss". I was talking to GPT-4 about this and it suggested a few things these experiences have in common. It was saying that the Default Mode Network essentially limits these experiences, which is what Dennis McKenna says, too. What these experiences have in common, though, is that they all involve:
>altered states of consciousness
>a sense of wonder/novelty
>reduced stress/anxiety
>ego death
I then asked GPT-4 to narrow it down further, and it came up with
>a sense of interconnectedness and unity with the universe
I have to wonder who is more aware of reality, the people who are stuck in the money grind in a city or buddhist monks deep in meditation in the middle of nowhere. Or who is more adapted to life.
My question for you guys, though, is your thoughts on what those four aspects of these experiences (altered states, etc) have in common. Do you think GPT-4 is correct?

I can sense the pressure behind word salad and questions you have posted. A sort of dislike of who you are and what you want to be is not the same. So you think that throuhh help of drugs you can transform yourself.
I had an ego death on 250ug of LSD and I have to tell you that altough it was magnificent for the time being I knew I was lying to the universe and that it had some repercussions.
In my honest opinion, both the ultra capitalist and some detached monk don't live life, they just use life to get to what they want which is bliss. One hopes to get to it through detachment and the other through complete "attachment".
Life is ought to be lived, in the moment. It isn't a game that has winners or losers, you can't speedrun it or pause it. Don't have any quests really. No objectives or goals. Just try and enjoy the process, even the bad parts.

What they have in common is a state of mind. You can feel and recognize the association so it's in common. But the more relevant question than whether it's a sense of unity with the universe is whether it is unity with the universe. What does one experience, one feeling or one idea have over another?
We hope for answers and sometimes in extraordinary moments feel them as whole and perfect. Then we see more or less and they aren't anymore. I don't see that as a deception or a mistake, just something beyond us. Maybe understanding is unreachable, maybe false in itself.

I know what you're talking about with "kid vision", I microdose LSD almost exclusively for that, although I have it almost any time I feel good/free. The world is a beautiful place! I can't believe i ever wanted to really hallucinate when the real world is so wondrous.
I have been near death a few times. Almost drove a motorcycle off a cliff. I don't even remember the exact moment, afterwards I found myself sitting on the edge of the cliff feeling dazed.

If you're just interested in the typical platitudes people would give you, that's a great choice.

I only have done weed, and that's is a very good way to decribe my experience i just feel like a kid again when i'm very high and see things more beautiful and unique and i feel really like, in peace and happy

currently experiencing a little bit of kid vision after my first small dose of mushrooms. I didn't take enough to see wavy patterns or anything like that, but even days later my vision feels more crisp (which is great since I need glasses) and music touches my heart the way it did when I was younger and less exhausted with life. hell, I would have been too self conscious to say anything touches my heart before I tried it. I still want to have the full breakthrough experience at least once but even if this is all it does for me it would have been worth the trouble of growing it.

Humans have all these hang ups and illusions to help them survive, like a fear of heights while in an otherwise safe space like a skyscraper. The end all be all of evolutionary psychology is that an organism which lies to itself to survive is inherently superior to an organism which doesn't. Fears are easiest to relate to, as even the word "phobia" suggests at irrationality, but there's so many: Biological adherence to social order, every single emotion, even pattern recognition is fake. These are lies we evolved to tell ourselves because they helped us survive, and I believe isolating them and understanding is key to human intellectual development: You can't do science if you're touching your dick all day because it feels good.
To focus exclusively on reality and reject every illusion is the subliminal mantra on which Buddhist thought is contingent. They might be wrong, but what's necessary is their total rejection of self, because they know that reality is all around them, not inside their heads. The chronic individualism we see in first world context is the opposite: "What I feel is more important then what's real, because I'm me, the most important thing in the world."
Picrels are an example of one of our physical limitations: Our eyes lie to us daily, and we trust them. The gradient is perfect. Any imperfections you see are because your eyes are less sensitive to those wavelengths, demonstrated by pink lines. The white charting is our relative sensitivity: Notice how sensitivity decreases further from those peaks, and increases directly under them.
In the third image is a quick color shift I did in gimp. Notice how by shifting the reds/greens into the blue, we lose sensitivity?
That information is still there, in fact the gradient is mathematically perfect and demonstrates a uniform distribution of wavelengths. This is one of our simplest deficiencies, but I'm far more interested in this same premise as is adherent to psychology. An interesting addendum to this is our brains ability to invent colors in between our sensitivity peaks, most notable in moving images, where we can process a perfect gradient, but it's not our eyes doing it. This fake data is a problem to me, however useful and impressive the brain may be.

The interesting and obnoxious thing for me with weed was I found it deactivated some sort of system designed to sync the senses with the body map, ie it makes motor feedback the dominant system and clocks your perception to that. However if you uncouple it the world is pretty much in slow motion. I would jump and feel myself hanging in the air for a long time. I would tell my body to do something and have to wait for it to respond.
Why can't this be activated any time? If I could do brain activity readings or something else, perhaps the mind splitting is conditionable.
Lastly I have problems with the upper neck and brainstem. So a lot of this could be inducing seizure behavior by overstimulating the brainstem via compression or torsion, which propagates to the temporal regions.
As far as kid vision, weed transported me back to when I was 5 years old and then just left me there. It was terrible. Never did it again.

OP here. I think you would find this really interesting:

Don Hoffman simulated life forms and showed that entities which focus on seeing reality as it is are outcompeted by entities which focus on seeing reality as it pertains to fitness. He said something like life isn't about seeking the truth; it's about having kids. As a Buddhist this definitely irks me, because I believe meditation leads to seeing reality as it is as well as the eventual cessation of suffering. How is that not more important than having kids?

"Experiments" like this say more about the experimenter's opinions than anything else. He did not actually simulate the evolutionary process, that would take too long; he designed two different machines and placed them in an artificial environment and evaluated their fitness according to some metrics he thought up, then philosophized about the results.

i'm skeptical of the results of an algo for a uniquely human experience, but arriving at a new question is a good use of the feedback loop they provide
that said, reddit spacing, when we were children, our egos were just being formed. while tripping, our nervous systems are vulnerable to all the wide range of experience going on in the same way.
its amazing, and fascinating, to use it to become like a child again, but as is clear like, whatever happens to us is totally random. during those vulnerable periods, 'whatever's there' in your environment IS how your nervous system gets fixed in one POV and that IS your ego.
i'm sure if you used it in the proper set and setting for the express purpose of healing childhood issues, you wouldn't have to worry about it triggering schizoid states, quite the contrary it could help you to be more normal/engaged in everyday life. cause there are people who go through life totally blissed out. idk its about taking the wisdom of the monk life and applying it to the day-to-day.

There has to be someone who values truth for truth to be valued, and someone existing is predicated on reproduction. Simple!

I don't really care what these people have to say for a few key reasons:
1) They can't define "reality"
2) They can't define "exists"
3) They can't define "objective" and "subjective".
They're starting from a video game perspective. There is a hard material mechanistic universe with relatively fixed laws and then something transducing and sampling then building an internal conception of the world with its brain. There are so many presuppositions there, and I just can't take it seriously unless a person comes right out and says "I'm a materialist, that's my thing, and btw by materialism I mean X".
