What are the benefits of taking shrooms?
Dr. X · 2023-02-19 03:53
Do they really help with self-actualization and processing self-destructive habits/emotional issues?
I'm hoping that I can come to some conclusions about myself.

They can get the process started in a relatively safe and cheap way.
Don't expect them to be actual magic. If you don't put the lessons to action they're useless.

Psychedelics can be bad if you are scared of using them or if you have bad anxiety. You should have a trip sitter. Also, when buying magic mushrooms, you need to make sure that it's real stuff instead of something potentially dangerous (it can be contaminated as well, so make sure there isn't any mold).
If you want to know about (any) psychedelic substance or other type of drug, you should check out Erowid: https://www.erowid.org/chemicals/psilocybin/psilocybin.shtml
PsychonautWiki is another good source: https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Psilocybin_mushrooms

Realizations about your life and life in general are profound. On their own might be psychologically addicting as in the idea of that realization being desirable, but other than that there are no physical addictions.
In of themselves shrooms are just a tool, not an end all be all. You can't use them for anything more than to clarify things but not to do the work for you.

I agree with this post. For further context, you should try to write down things you've learned during your trip and go over them once you're sober and revisit them again and again. While this can be very helpful, you might also find that there are things you've written that don't make any logical sense, and you also will very likely have many ideas during your trip that you won't be able to put into words for the life of you. Also the medical usage of mushrooms is limited, similarly to other medications. There's been recent evidence that magic mushrooms can be quite effective in curing depression, but this only lasts for a short period of time and to continue to receive benefits you will have to take them regularly. Some people who find it difficult to take mushrooms every month or so but still want the benefits turn to microdosing, which is taking a very small amount of mushrooms (or any substance) every day. This usually means taking too little to get anywhere near what you could call a high or a trip, but enough to notice changes in your thinking. Personally I think that while there are medical benefits to shrooms, it is better to find a way to cope without using intoxicants of any kind. You will probably find a lot more benefit through dedicated practice of meditation or prayer or religion or philosophy etc. Also I would recommend that if you are struggling with self destructive habits and emotional issues and you are able to afford medical care that you should see a therapist and also ask if he thinks you should see a psychiatrist, who will prescribe more common medications that likely won't intoxicate you.

I took them regularly for a few months and found long lost memories that seemed like they were deep in my subconscious come to the fore. Dealing with that and able to let go of something potentially bothering me would definitely aid self improvement.

I saw a study about psilocybin and PTSD or depression or something, and they had tried therapy by itself, therapy with psilocybin, psilocybin by itself, and no interventions. It was one of these really promising studies that's all over the place lately, but the interesting thing to me was that the psilocybin by itself was (on average) not actually all that helpful, and most of the benefit came from the *combination* of psilocybin and therapy. I'm like 90% sure I'm remembering that correctly.
Shrooms are mind-altering, and it's hard to guarantee that the alteration will be good. I have friends who have had major revelations about themselves, and friends who have basically had a 4-hour panic attack and struggled with anxiety for a month afterwards and were never able to take shrooms again. Personally I've only ever just had a great time with very little personal growth coming out of it, but then I also was taking them recreationally, not to seek insight or growth.
My two cents: Shrooms and anxiety don't play nice together! If you experience a significant amount of anxiety in your life, then I would nudge you towards other drugs. Otherwise I do recommend them while understanding the risks. If you're unsure about how much to take err on the smaller side the first time. Get someone you're really comfortable around to trip-sit for you, if you can.
Also if you do take them, report back please :)

I have pretty bad anxiety and psychedelic drugs (psilocybin & LSD, not DMT) actually calm me down much more than any other drug I've tried.
I've used those drugs several times (probably 30+ at this point, not counting microdoses) and I'd say that only a few of my trips were really life-changing. Mostly, they remind me of those few times when I was exposed to Truth, Infinity, Love, Beauty, etc., and make for a damn nice day on top of that.

I took LSD a lot from around age 16-18. I'm 20 in college now, and did some shrooms last summer at a friends house. Had a bad trip, freaked out n soykaf, but it was cuz I was on adderall. I also did 3.5 gram of shrooms my buddy grew about 3 weeks ago and had a suuuuper bad trip even though I didn't take my addy for a whole week before. I forgot what it was like to be human and then went in my roomie's bathtub and just sat there thinking about the human experience and wondering wtf is this soykaf. Then I played Spiderman on the PS4 LMAO.
Honestly, my recent trip was prob just bad cuz my dad died in December and left essentially nothing behind so it's been stressful, but that was enough to call out shrooms (and maybe psychs in general) for good for now.

Shrooms and adderall are two drugs I desperately want to try. Not at the same time but spread out.

I should add that I'm prescribed adderall, IDK how you reccies out there will handle shrooms.

my waifu just had her first small dose of psilocybin about a week ago and she agrees. she's had meditation sessions that have been focused on a specific subject and have lead to permanent beneficial attitude changes. mushrooms have given her a kind of low-grade euphoria, no hallucinations or anything yet due to small dose size, but she doesn't see it as a replacement for mediation and deliberate, focused introspection.

Don't psychiatrists typically just prescribe benzos? Benzos are way more harmful potentially than any psychedelic.

They show you what I would refer to as close to the endgoal of a spiritual life, but you have to put in the work in your everyday to actualize it.
A tool in the toolbox per se.

Been taking small doses of shrooms weekly for the past 5 months, combined with daily going out of my way to put myself in uncomfortable social situations, I have cut my social anxiety by maybe 85%. A year ago I was incel could barely hold a conversation with strangers, now Im in a frat going to parties clubbing hooking up multiple times a week I can barely recognize my past self
Maybe I will go insane or something eventually but its been paying off so far

Got these gummies at a stop nearby, unfortunately there's no real information on them besides the fact that they contain 4-AcO-DMT. Is there anything different I should expect on these, and can they re-open the same chakra responsible for my broad, refined vocabulary and playful syntax that lets me deconstruct and refute complex lies?
Acid Burn · 2024-02-28 09:35
first time i did shrooms i really enjoyed them, felt real good and had some self-realizations. next 4 times i did them i enjoyed them less and less, hated the way i felt on them and didn't think any different. except the second to last time i tried them i didn't know what the fuarrrk was going on had tv on and only understood half of it, then the last time i did them i didn't think differently at all, also shrooms last too long for me i prefer like a 4 hour high at most.

>no psilocybin
it's not going to be like taking real mushrooms since the active ingredient in mushrooms isn't in these, you're better off looking up trip reports for 4-AcO-DMT specifically.

were you taking the same dosage every time? how far apart were the trips? were you making sure to get your set and setting right before you took them? all that stuff has a big impact on how the experience plays out. when I have an opportunity to take some I back out of it if I can't make myself feel optimistic and excited, and so far no bad trips.
