How to cope with sobriety?

Delilah · 2023-01-23 22:46
For two years now I've been severely addicted to THC, using it as a remedy to stop cutting myself (I struggle with self-injuring behavior rationalized by ASD). For the last few months or so, I've been noticing a severe decrease in the quality of my life because of this. I can barely recall any memories from the day before, I feel tired and unmotivated all the time (unless drinking red bull all day which causes chest pain), my sleeping rhythm is all over the place and I don't feel like I need to worry about my responsibilities anymore. I've never been addicted to any other drug because i.e. amphetamine builds tolerance really quickly (had my abuse periods) but this one seriously got me cornered because it works really good for boredom. I'm only employed in the weekend and spend my weekdays programming but I have serious trouble being consistent at the latter. Any tips lainon?

Why did you stop then? Was there an initial reason behind it? Lack of money or even forced to quit by someone else?

yeah just suffer through withdrawals like a real G. Its weed bro you aren't going to die from DTs like a hardcore alcoholic I know I sound insensitive and I get it is like kicking dead whales down the beach but sometimes you gotta soldier on. maybe do kratom temporarily (thats how I stopped drinking).

Just stop taking it. i dont understand what you want. If you dont prefer sobriety then keep taking it. "Psychological addiction" is fixed once you resolutely decide what you want and stick with it. It is possible that without THC your other issues will be even worse, so maybe it will be better for you to go back to keep taking it. But you seem to need a solid break to find out

You need to address the root problem. Sobriety shouldn't feel bad. I know the idea that just quitting weed will solve all this is an attractive idea, but it's not true. Quitting weed may grant you temporary relief as you feel a sense of accomplishment for doing so, but unless your address the root cause of your depression, it will be back. I'm not saying don't quit THC. You should quit it for a while so that you can be sober while you introspect and learn how to be happy again. But don't expect that quitting weed will solve your problems.

You'll never actually quit if you don't have a good reason. Why do you want to quit? Don't make the mistake of blaming your personal issues on drugs. For instance, the reason why you're not programming consistently isn't the pot. It's that you don't enjoy it and you're not getting paid to do it. Did you know it's commonly accepted among programmers that being a little fuarrrked up actually *helps* you code? Sounds like you're simply not cut out to be a programmer. It's a common misconception that people in the tech industry are all autistic shut-ins. Unless you're trying to be a network admin, most jobs that include programming require constant communication among coworkers and with clients. The famous (probably autistic) loner programmers like Linus Torvalds are the exception, the top 1% of the industry... and if you're not motivated to code that's not you. Don't cut yourself up about it though. You're probably not suited to be an actor or pro basketball player either. I get that programmer is the trendiest job right now but maybe chasing trends isn't a good way to live your life. Surely there is something else you really want to do, and if not, your ASD should help you score NEETbux.

Don't listen to these retards. I was in more or less the exact same situation - never had a problem with anything except smoking weed all day purely out of boredom. When you quit your dopamine receptors will readjust and you will be able to experience the natural highs and lows of life that motivates humans to do anything. This is a physiological process that humans evolved to develop over millions of years, and if you think flooding your brain with feel-good chemicals all day every day has no bearing on its ability to work effectively stop kidding yourself. Weed withdraw is also really nothing to be honest. It is like kicking dead whales down the beach for a few days but really it's a joke compared to opiates. Appetite and sleep will resolve quickly if you're sober and not doing either of those things, and the urges only lasted like 10 minutes at a time at max. It's a good time to start cardio if you aren't already since it will kill the urges and help the receptors stabilize faster. Your motivation will come back pretty quickly, just make a plan and stick to it. Good luck.

Start by just taking small doses of edibles no more than once every 12 hours. Once in the morning and once at night. Decrease from there if your looking to fully quit.
