Neurogenesis?
Dox · 2022-12-12 00:34
Looking for any leads on how to form new gray matter. I've lost a significant amount (>10% in some regions). I've heard there is some research on using antidepressants for this (depression causes a loss in brain volume), but I'm looking for more info. Thanks!
Jet Black · 2022-12-12 02:57
how do you know specifically that you have lost 10% of your brain matter in some regions? That sounds kind of scary lol

There are studied that collect MRI scans of people who've taken the same drug or class of drug. The most dramatic losses are in the hippocampus and frontal lobe iirc.

yeah I'm sure studies have shown that brain matter can decrease from certain stuff but how do you know yours specifically has decreased by 10% in some regions that sounds rather extreme????
Dox · 2022-12-13 11:37
Some people have advertised NAC and lecithin/choline supplements for this purpose but idk if it's true.

Aerobic exercise, meditation.
Agent Jones · 2022-12-14 01:13
Do you know which brain regions though?
Meddler · 2022-12-15 11:16
I don't think anyone here are going to give a satisfying answer for what you want, and I think looking into anti-depressants for your use case will bring more harm than good.
so instead, before anyone delves into looking a way to fix his issue, I want to ask, have you felt any changes related to that loss of matter? Anything that would warrant the need to gain that matter back immediatly.
I understand your want to prevent any further loss, but I doubt it is this dire to seek off the shelf treatment. Get tested by neurologists and professionals if possible. Don't trust whatever the internet throws at you, even here.
Naomi Nascimento · 2022-12-16 02:00
How did you get like this and are you just feeling this way or did you have an MRI scan where a doc said this?
Roger Pollack · 2023-02-18 14:42
Cerebrolysin and cerebroxin
Anything that increases BDNF
But not working out tho, thats just free floating BDNF in blood for peripheral nerves

I take omega 3 fish oil and take cold showers daily for their neuroprotective properties, and whatever nootropics I can find marked down at the chemists, like co-enzyme Q-10, and whatever the wife wins online, smart drinks and coffee and pills. And I do wordle and spelling bee and crosswords.
I was terrified of dementia before I started working in aged care, and the phobia has only got worse since then.

Which ones?

5meo-dmt is great for neurogenesis, a 2018 study demonstrated that a single dose of 5-MeO-DMT induced neurogenesis in mice.

Lion's mane mushroom. There are clinical studies showing that it leads to neurogenesis

Heard it fuarrrks some people up mentally, not sure how true is that. I personally take it and haven't experienced the negative effects

stop spreading rumors that you yourself don't believe to be true, you are only damaging yourself by doing that

I'm not spreading rumors, I wasn't even aware of such possible negative effects up until very recently. Its most likely bullshit.

Mushrooms take up a lot from soil so any would really need to be third party tested for contaminants. You also have to consider age. Younger people probably already have plenty of BDNF so if they increase it then it will potentially have negative effects but someone older would in more cases see benefit. The only one of those that i see standing out as making particular sense is the one on increase in pain. There is some medications for arthritis that suppress nerve growth factor so something increasing nerve growth factor and brain derived nerve growth factor i could see potentially increasing pain in some conditions.

You can just not say anything and go on with your day if you don't know what you're talking about. Fish oil? You've been bamboozled
As for OP, the main reason why the brain does not regenerate in a similar way to other organs is microglial inflammation. There are some studies that certain antibiotics that can pass the blood-brain barrier like minocycline can help, which might not be optimal but is still way safer than using antidepressants

its in the Stamets Stack, never tried the Stack but I have had Lions Mane in my coffee many a time, or Cacao.

Peptides from pigs brains that are injectable like semax and cerebrocylosin (I always get the name wrong). The problem is, the cosmic nootropic, the only trusted source I heard, got problems with their US warehouse… and this is bad news. Anyone have good sources?

if it is you should be able to get similar results from foods that contain NAC/choline like eggs and kale. combine it with something like lion's mane which also stimulates neurogenesis and common sense health advice like getting quality sleep and OP should see results

>what the wife wins online
some kind of bidding war?
>>13545
lion's mane isn't even psychoactive lainon...those reddit anecdotes sound like allergic reactions and it shouldn't have to be said not to eat foods you're allergic to.

On BDNF, I have read that it is orally bioavailable, at least in mice. So theoretically you should be able to consume food sources of BDNF(examples being muscle meat, brain) and get a high dose.
Nobody important · 2023-09-30 16:00
>>14014
dumb paper then because BDNF is a macromolecule that can't get through blood brain barrier. And if you eat anything with complex peptides it breaks down in stomach and small intestine....

>BDNF can't get through the blood brain barrier
NTA, how did you come to that conclusion? I am pretty sure that isn't true

You know, you obviously have to be removed from the gene pool so you don't pass on your damaged chromosomes to the next generation, but an alternative to walking off a cliff would be getting your balls cut off.
But don't let me stop you with the whole cliff thing, you obviously don't have a lot to contribute to the world, unless it's as nourishment to seabirds.

Just found an awesome article on neurogensis here >https://the-nexian.me/the-nexian
very informative and has made me consider cutting back more on tobacco and alcohol since they cause the opposite of neurogenesis.

true but lion's mane doesn't grow in the soil, it grows directly on trees like picrel if we're talking about foraged mushrooms. anything you'd get as a supplement is grown in a much more controlled way than that, like a mix of oats, bran, sawdust, stuff like that.
