memory goodbye

John Titor · 2022-02-27 02:31
is there a way to remove much of someones memory and personality without invoking debilitating brain damage or losing too much of their practical skills necessary for living(just being able to *know* that stuff without remembering why)? losing even 10 iq would be acceptable very necessary treatment
Tequila · 2022-02-27 03:22
>>10252 I guess it's impossible. You can't losing memories which can be considered as unneccesary or bad/sad things except getting an accident or mental disease that trys to keep your mental as hiding your memories can be caused abnormal things. You posted this thread on /drug/, so maybe you try to find solution via drugs. I don't know really specific things about "Drugs" but I guess if it's possible, but I'm pretty sure it's temporarily if it's not caused the permanently damage at your brain. But I wish how can I erase my fuarrrking memories. I can offering not only 10 iq but also most of them at least living common.
Koichiro · 2022-02-27 03:35
>>10253 seen it somewhat accomplished this to a degree. managed to worsen the memory through sheer willpower. just trying to block as much out and stop remembering things in general. but memories from before the effort can still come through, and obviously the personality is still what it is 10 iq just because not sure what the iq is. would offer more iq. would gladly get knocked down from Genius to Normal if that was the case.
H.R. Giger · 2022-02-27 04:35
>>10254 managed to worsen the memory through sheer willpower. just trying to block as much out and stop remembering things in general. but memories from before the effort can still come through, and obviously the personality is still what it is But, *managed to worsen the memory through sheer willpower* is impossible. Most memories blong to memories which you said, like memories from before the effort can still come though. We can't managed memories like willpower. That's consious but unconsious at the same time. Also the memories you think should be removed, but your brain doesn't think like that. Maybe they can be useful things of the brains's point of view. So they want to keep it to use for the future what is unexpected or not. Also, it is whether necessary or not, if you try to manage it, that's just an "reminding". You need to know which memories to manage, then you have to remind it even though you don't want to keep exist it. Ironically, That makes you remember memories more tightly. like OCD.

You can make up fake memory to replace real ones and alter personality. This involves elaborately designing new and/or alterering old ones then replace original memories with those. You then have to force these memories, you need to convince yourself that those implanted memories are real. Also the cia has great reference material on this, but its very complex also.
Elliot Alderson · 2022-02-27 14:02
>>10259 Would you tell me where is that reference? I wish it's not MK-Ultra

Yet Another Lainon · 2022-02-28 23:12
>>10252 There is a way to weaken conditioned fear reflexes. It's based on the idea that memories are actually updated when they're relived, and that if you relive them while you're physically unable to panic, fear associated with them will diminish. Look up propranolol fear extinction on pubmed. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26808441/ I don't have very specific traumas, but I find propranolol good as an anti-anxiety drug.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2022-03-01 04:20
>>10252 It doesn't work, the past doesn't cease to exist when you forget it. however if you need to deal with flashbacks EMDR works. basically you begin to recall the memory and then you just look to the left and right and back very fast repeatedly until it subsidies, can take up to 30 seconds. or that's how I know "traumatic memory densitization technique".

Otto Normalverbraucher · 2022-03-04 20:46
>>10287 Yes it can in the same way a bullet to the head does, except the bullet is painless and fast, while using alcohol for that is a slow and painful death. Dont go down that road, ive been there, its a dead end.

>>10257 a total of 85-90 iq would be preferable to some people if they could lose memory & personality
Naomi Nascimento · 2022-03-07 11:57
Just wait a while. Some drugs are in development. For example ZIP is thought to erase memories upon recall by disrupting the memory reformation process. It can cause seizures though so dont just go trying to buy it as it's effects on humans is unknown. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27277798/ Actually not remembering memories helps preserve them because when you recall a memory your current mental state can reinterpret events thus it can rewrite the memory. Instead of trying to erase memory you may want to aim for reinterpreting memories and becoming more emotionally distant from ones something bad happened to you
Six · 2022-03-08 20:18
>>10301 Think its more about becoming a blank canvas and allowing a new unburdened personality to be born rather than trying to forget specific negative memories or learning to accept them

Depending on your goal you could try hypnosis maybe. I don't think you'll ever be able to remove a memory and all its effects unless it's a very unimportant memory to your being -- memories aren't just like a library in your brain, they're a vast network of connections that reinforce each other, so any memory that's relatively core to your being (traumas, etc) you certainly can't just erase. See cptsd with repressed memories (common with CSA survivors and those who experienced any major traumas at a young age) If you want to establish a blank slate for a new personality like >10307 suggests then perhaps something close is possible though depending on what exactly you want

>>10252 In theory if we had a better understanding of the brain's landscape we could cause area specific lesions but in very percice milimiters, or send in microelectrodes just like in stereotaxic surgery in mice, in order to fire off different sets of neurons, although the latter procedure is kind not able to take place yet cause you usually check for the activity of one neuron with the microelectrode stimulation.

>>10259 Wasn't there a research that says whenever you recall an event you can inadvertently make changes to the memory? Maybe this is a controlled way to manipulate this effect. >>10252 Being half serious, find a job where you are forced to work long hours with intellectual demanding stuff and also makes you attend long boring meetings. When you finally go home at the end of the day, do a memory demanding task like memorizing Japanese kanji and vocabulary. I guarantee that you are going to start forgetting things. The side effect is that you will earn some money and learn another language. I think by making your mind extra tired and then forcing it to remember new things before going to sleep somehow forces your brain to use the sleep ability to transform short memory into long term memory and on the other hand suppresses the retrieval of old memories in dreams, somehow making old memories slowly fade.

No. You won't fix your fuarrrked up mind by fuarrrking it up further. What you can do is work on the pain so you can remember without it hurting too much. Everyone does that to different extents, but it will take time. Maybe read up on people who went through trauma, lost a child or things like that. I hope you get better.

You can wait around for some experimental bullshit to come along if you want. But you'll be traumatized by something else down the road and you'll still be a weakling who doesn't know how to deal with it, and you'll need to fry your brain a little more. And if you're a psychological weakling who doesn't like being one but doesn't want to put on the big boy pants and deal with it, you'll google some "delete my memories pl0x" hype bullshit until you get tired of your own soykaf and get prescription psych meds and end up and addicted dumbed-down fuarrrk.
