how do I stop craving. I'm addicted to adderall and I've been clean for months since I don't have anywhere to get it anymore since my rx was canceled but I can't stand the fuarrrking cravings. I'm going insane. is there some kind of way medically to get this to fuarrrking stop or do I just live in hell now

You digged a deep hole and now you gotta get out of it with your own strenght.
Sure, there probably are medical drugs that may help, but that won't be effective long term. Every time you introduce a new chemical to your brain, it creates a hormonal imbalance.
The only way of effectively getting rid of an addiction is by not taking drugs at all, so that you develop a "new normal" that, with time, will create enough neuroplasticity to reduce the neural paths programmed to make you crave what you're addicted to.
But, you can't just sit there and wait for the cravings to go away, that will never work. Pull up a notepad and write a list of good habits you can introduce to your daily routine that will occupy the time you used doing drugs.

there's no way to make them go away completely. Your mind is changed permanently. Use it as a reminder of how much adderall fuarrrked you up.

do you have any generic ideas? everything I've tried has failed. I'm too brain damaged to read, I don't like video games, I'm too out of shape to do runs without it feeling like I'm dying, soykaf like that. maybe I'm just making excuses but I really tried and it just didn't work. I'm willing to try pretty much anything
Hacker · 2022-02-04 22:33
Maybe look into going to an ibogaine or ketamine clinic

Keep running until you stop feeling like you're dying when you do it. That'll rewire your cardiovascular system and limbic system. Not saying that'll cure you on its own but I did that to quit smoking cannabis and cigarettes and that worked. I'm like an intermediate level athlete now actually because of how much I ran to kill my cravings.

Also not to sound like some kind of program junkie or self-appointed e-shaman but it doesn't sound like you quit with the intention to get clean but because you were forced to. Unless you have a borderline spiritual desire to free yourself from chemical dependence you will likely relapse.

well I told them so they'd take it away because I did actually wanna quit but I oscillate quickly back and forth between wanting to stay clean and not. but I don't know how to solve that

>do you have any generic ideas?
Sure. I can say some of the things that helped me:
-Keep a good sleep hygiene (always go to sleep and wake up at the same hours, and make sure to get some sun as soon as you wake up)
- Getting veggies, fruits and low fat meat everyday really helps, also reduce your simple carbs intake (Less cookies and doritos, more potatoes and rice, things like that). All of this contribute to a healthy gut microbiome, which affects mood a lot.
Get into drinking more tea, it can help with junk food cravings. Other than tea, drink water, a lot. And no sugar nor artificial sweetners(which are worse than sugar) in your drinks.
- as >>10079 mentioned, running or other types of excercise really helps. Do at least a bit daily and you'll eventually get used to it. Do it before eating dinner, this will help you get better sleep at night and help you mantain your sleep schedule. also 0 screen time 2 hours before sleeping (no smartphone/pc/tv, read a book or listen to a podcast instead).
Also morals. Think, find more reasons why you want to quit this. you need good excuses to do it.

Well I'm gonna sound like even more of a program junkie right now (never been to a meeting. I quit on my own) but if your cravings are that extreme you might want to join NA or some kind of support group. Group talk therapy in a non judgemental environment helps big time.

yeah you're right. there aren't many resources around my area but honestly it's probably worth the drive.

Ah yes. The classic "fix drugs with more drugs" I'm quite the fan of this method to be honest lainon. But, I'm just a bad example.

Fitting name, Bob. But ibogaine isn't recreational. Ketamine is admittedly but the glutamate agonizing prefrontal cortex rewiring effects of ketamine are empirically verifiable with regard to its efficacy in resolving addiction. Just don't fuarrrking abuse it. Only do it in a controlled medical environment.

don't have to run, go hike. maybe try multi day backpacking trips. that's my plan at least
Nell · 2022-02-07 05:23
just sit with feeling of craving and dont act on it or try to get rid of the feeling,. thinking you need to feed this craving or get rid of it just makes it worse. it's just a there. accept it.

hm you're right. I mean that's easier said than done but that's a good approach. I'll try that, thank you

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
― Frank Herbert, Dune
Yea just live with it, try not to push the thought away but also don't dwell on it either. distract yourself if you need to.
Case · 2022-02-07 21:08
just sleep. god knows you need it

I actually have an excellent sleep schedule; I go to bed from 9 to 6 every night. I'm still ridiculously tired all the time though. guess that's what I get for being a tweaker
