Story time. My internet friend, who I've known for years now, has had consistent issues with mental health. Severe social anxiety, depression, multiple suicide attempts, the works. After some back to back traumatic events, she started some long term heavy use of alcohol and marijuana, which she pretty quickly became dependent on to relieve the aforementioned issues. Around this time last year, she decided to try acid. I don't know how much, how often, or for how long, but she now claims that, as a result, she's permafried, anything she does to help her issues doesn't work, and from what I've heard, she hasn't left the apartment of another friend for a year, and "shuts down" from leaving the apartment, going for a car ride, any exposure to the wider world at all. She has a laundry list of comorbidities that make doing acid an extremely terrible idea, and she was warned, but didn't listen. Besides the obvious emotional support, is there anything that can be done to help her?

[spoiler]I would guess "perma-fried" is an excuse for mental health issues that were intensified after LSD use. It's unlikely to be brain damage from LSD itself. Alcohol & heavy marijuana use will be doing that plenty anyway. She should stop all forms of drug use immediately. If you can't get her to do that then she will never get better.

>>10015 I should say, this is assuming she got real LSD and not something toxic af like BROMO-Dragonfly. Also the [spoiler] block is unintentional.
Switch · 2022-01-30 20:32
>>10015 Pretty much. Maybe she drinks occasionally, but more or less all her drug use has been replaced with binge eating, which, while unhealthy, shouldn't make any of the above worse.

Holotropica breathwork can provide every profit from LSD without undesired side effects. If that doesnt work, look for the health thread in /PDFs/ at endchan and may God help you >Do not trust meds
Emmanuel · 2022-01-31 01:16
>>10028 >Do not trust meds Most people don't need meds, but you need to find out if your mood is being colored by intrusive/automatic thoughts and feelings, or if there is underlying persistent low mood that permeates everything. Sometimes, just fixing the thoughts, feelings, eating healthy and exercising doesn't fix the underlying mood, and that's when you should consider meds.

I've had a near-psychotic breakdown ten years ago after chugging a ton of kool-aid laced with LSD at a party. I've had similar concerns about how my brain was affected. You can be certain that in a span of about seven years all cells of a human body will have replaced themselves. That's inside and out, including the brain. So yes, with time she'll definitely recover provided she's competent enough to quit damaging her brain alcohol and have actual solutions for her personl issues so she may allow her body to heal itself and by extension, her mind and well.

>>10754 problem with being damaged this way is that it disposes you to not be healthy later. Also this is just dumb. Ever had a scar ? I have a lot that last well over 7 years. Damage heals, sure, but this is a really naieve model of recovery and healing. It just don't work quite like that.

She could try shrooms as a treatment for both addiction and depression. Watch some TedTalks about mushrooms, they're really good. For me, it has really worked for my depression ; it saved my life. Moreover, it is not addictive and you can't really abuse it / overdose.

>>10014 >permafried wym? is she still experiencin lsd style halucinations? or are we talkin a cognitive decline?
Jens Hansen · 2022-12-01 09:30
I'm posting here because I couldn't find a suitable thread. So, say if you had a stimulant psychosis and you feel that you permafried your brain's dopamine system or something. Can it be somehow repaired? The antipsychotics aren't helping me much and I mainly get side effects.
Mario Rossi · 2022-12-01 12:12
>>11735 There are some studies that suggest taking NAC supplements can help repair brain damage from meth, mdma, and possibly other drugs.

>when a psychodelic just makes you stop trying to better your life damn, that's one hell of a fuarrrkup I had a soykafty LSD experience where I wanted to kill myself multiple times. But after LSD I tried to fix my life one issue at a time (there were a ton) and now, after a year and half I am at a better place.

Teaching her about neurogenesis might help: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adult_neurogenesis I've had a few friends who were convinced they were "permafried" which in turn made them double down on giving up on life. What's the point of trying to get better if they "ruined" their brain anyway? Of course, that's not true. The rate of neurogenesis slows down dramatically after 25 but it never goes away entirely and there are tons of things you can do to increase it. Novel experiences, intense exercise, healthy diet, and sober sleep are really all it takes. If she tries new sports until she's winded, she'll automatically be hungry and tired. Well, she'd have to lay off the drugs for a few months too.

>>11735 Dopamine detox Get away from anything flashy or noisy, dont listen to music, eat little, stay in dark room, dont have human interactions Do this for a week Just a week Then you will reset your brain and can instill a normal pattern of human behavior in the brain

OP here. I'm surprised this thread is still around. I confirmed with her a few months after that other people who did acid with her, presumably from the same source, were fine. I told her directly that whatever's going on in her head, it wasn't from acid. That didn't do much. She is, at least from what she says, not hopeless about getting better. As of now, she's still with us, which is a small miracle in and of itself. She's still a shut in, but Earlier this year, she, on her own, started the steps toward receiving professional help. Thank you to all the Lainons who posted.

>>10925 Very late, but from what I heard, constant crippling anxiety. Which could be considered cognitive decline, I suppose.

>>10014 you cant save others, its hard enough to save yourself, but at least thats within an individuals capacity. dont let the poor choices of others be a bane to yourself, its all too easy for that to be the case, I dealt with it myself for years.

>>12545 Tell her to forgive her parents to their faces so she loses the anger that has screwed her up so badly. Also, to learn meditation from a real Buddhist and do it every day, she can also go into meditation whenever she’s disturbed. If she does those two things she’ll be fine.
