I'm not that knowledgeable in the subject, so I have trouble understanding what this is, but I'm still interested. Is this an alternative to TCP/IP, made with cryptography to ensure that peer-to-peer connections are 100% secure and that only those who get the message and know the password can read it?
Anonymous · 2014-10-13 03:47
>I think it's time we made the wired a reality. I'm all for calling it the lainet though. It would be cool if we made our own image board protocol and moved lainchan to that instead of HTTP/HTML.

>>4664 cjdns creates udp tunnels to each one of the list of peers defined in the config file. Any traffic can flow through these tunnels. The tunnel is secured through NaCl encryption. Each node is assigned an ipv6 address (also specified in the config file) so that they can reach eachothers services. In addition to this, each node functions as a router for the network. That way you can access services beyond your immediate peers. (ie. you can access services hosted on peers of peers and so forth).

>>4707 You can use whatever you want. It just has to make a long string that cannot be guessed or memorized at a glance. The quality of the encryption is not based on the password. Here's a method using /dev/urandom that generates a 30 character string: cat /dev/urandom| tr -dc 'a-zA-Z0-9' | fold -w 30| head -n 1 Also I forgot to mention that its a good idea to chmod 600 your config file so it cant be read without some privileges.

Anonymous · 2014-10-19 15:46
So, what are you using this for? Also, how is this better than i2p?
somalian · 2014-10-19 19:33
>>4927 Its like i2p but it has a friend to friend element. The people you decide to peer directly to know your real ip but anyone connecting to you who isn't peered with you (ie a peer of a peer) only knows the ipv6 address of your cjdrouter and not your real ip. It offers the same universal encryption throughout the network as i2p, is faster due to the trusted peer system, and is more lightweight on your system. It wasn't developed to be an anonymity layer however it hides your identity to anyone who isn't a trusted peer so it still your identity some protection. >What are you using this for? Right now I'm tryiing to get some basic services up and running so anyone who decides to join can start to host stuff if they want. I'm trying to get a bttracker running inside the net and I'll be working on getting a DNS and a site directory/announcement page running when I'm finished with exams. That's the plan for now.

>>4975 yah I'm working on it. I've been testing different trackers and web servers to see how they play with the network. It turns out that most trackers that implement ipv6 do so with some sort of workaround so they tend to have problems with interacting with cjdns. Some of the guys in hyperboria seem to have gotten trackers working so ill ask them. As far as getting the announcement page up, I've gotten a vps set up wih all of the necessary software and it all seems to work. If anyone here knows where I can get some decent css templates and such please do tell, i don't have time right now to build a website from scratch due to midterms. Also if any of you have any ideas for services to have on the network just say so on the thread. If the legality of your idea is questionable, just message me over tox or send me encrypted mail.
zannix · 2014-10-22 22:24
>>4977 >>4976 I did some more research on Hyperboria. I think that as this network (hopefully) grows, it should remain completely separate from Hyperboria, and maybe later on have a single VPS which has peers both on Hyperboria and the Lainet. I plan on setting up a separate box for this stuff anyway, but that's at least a year or so off. I also have to figure out how I'm going to run cjdns when I go back to college. Maybe I can convince the IT there to forward my port?

I have opentracker installed on my pi and it is tracking peers over the network it just isn't relaying the ips of said peers to eachother for some reason so they can connect to complete the file transfer.

Just finished setting up the stuff for cjdns on my piece o crap computer. Couple questions. To host content, servers will either need to be outside of a NAT or have port forwarding, right? >>6688 I considered making an open gateway earlier, but I realized that people connected through a gateway can't host anything or contribute to the network bandwidth, and just serve to make the network more centralized. If enough people want one though I'll host it for a while just to increase traffic and hopefully get some more people to adopt. >>6625 you just need to forward whatever udp port that was generated in your config file on your router. That's it. You don't need to open any other ports to the outside if you are just planning on passively contributing and browsing. For services you want to host on cjdns, just open the appropriate port with iptables on the actual machine you're hosting it on. Again your home router doesn't require any additional ports to be opened to the outside other than the udp port.

I doubt that would lend itself to exclusivity.
zannix · 2014-12-10 04:08
>>6686 >>6716 The point of cjdns is to make the network decentralized, not closed. We don't want a publicly accessible node that anyone on the Internet can access, since that centralizes the network to one or two nodes. Anyone had any luck getting this to work with venet devices?
Anonymous · 2015-01-29 19:13
>>8033 I haven't tried it myself but I've read about the limitations of venet interfaces on the openvz wiki and there doesn't seem to be any specific limitation that would prevent cjdns from running over a virtual interface.

>>8256 There is a limitation. venet devices dont' provide mac addresses. i just switched over to veth

>>4662 If any of you are having problems running the master branch of cjdns try downgrading to the most recent stable branch or the abandoned-v14 branch to fix the issues until they release a functioning master branch. I say this because I've been having issues for the past few days and it seems some other lainet sites are as well.

there will be an overchan at http://[fcc5:3cf4:d2db:8258:d9d1:f073:52fa:4b3]/ when the time is right
Anonymous · 2015-02-25 18:41
>>8913 Do you mean there will be an overchan front end syncing with the existing tor sites or a whole new nntpchan for lainet?
Anonymous · 2015-02-28 18:09
>>9135 I just visited his link, and it looks like it's connecting to the nntpchan on tor. If not, it's connecting to an nntpchan on hyperboria.
zannix · 2015-02-28 18:12
>>8913 Just out of general interest, are you connected to hyperboria? Whenever you connect, the number of nodes I find on the network mapper skyrockets.
