This is why I deleted my facebook a year ago. I feel great being outside of that hellhole.

deleting facebook doesn't delete your facebook…sounds weird when you type it out but its true.
read tnc, bit about the us navy that made me 'um what?' and leave years ago.
the other thing that annoys me is no one will care that psychological operations have been admitted to here. they don't care.

>deleting facebook doesn't delete your facebook
I know, but it does halt the ongoing collection at the moment you do "delete it", or more likely "removes it from the surface web". It's admittedly in Facebook's servers, in which they'll keep it for who knows how long.
Doesn't make the act of "deleting" it any less important.

>for who knows how long
Until they get you in a FEMA camp.
"What kind of weirdo deletes their Facebook?"
"How do they keep in touch?"

Recently deleted my Facebook, damn glad I did.

That's… probably never going to happen.

I can't really see the point in delteing my FB account. If it doesn't actually delete anything, then "deleting" it just another piece of info you are giving them. I don't update it, so I don't give a shit.

That was a pretty weak excuse bro.
And of course FEMA camps are bullshit. The guy was kidding.
Also I'm not even American so I'd like to see them try.

How come?
If they aren't going to do what I ask them, how could giving them more information improve my privacy?

Because you execute any further data-mining.

I see what you're saying, but some of the people I interact with still use facebook, and I end up getting tagged in their photos and shit. I could either make a big deal about it on facebook itself, or I could just delete it.

You are giving them page views and another user to boast about in statistics.
Your "friends" can still tag you on photos, send you messages, invite you to events, tell Facebook that they are doing things with you, etc. They can update your profile for you. You are also sending the message that it's OK to use Facebook, they can reach you on it so you are reinforcing the "network effect" that prevents many from leaving because "their friends are all there".

How? I don't go there anymore.
>Your "friends" can still tag you on photos, send you messages, invite you to events, tell Facebook that they are doing things with you, etc.
I'm not sure how I can change that. Does deleting my account stop that?
>You are also sending the message that it's OK to use Facebook, they can reach you on it so you are reinforcing the "network effect" that prevents many from leaving because "their friends are all there".
Fair enough.
…
Oh god, I just looked.
It's full of questions about where I grew up, and people I don't know.
Apparently, my account is "33% complete" whatever the hell that means.
It's trying to run flash, too.
Ugh, fuck this.

Everyday I'm feeling more and more going rouge. And I just learned an old account I had on Google is still active. No activity but still active
Found because my sister sent me an email and it got forwarded to my new address, which I did just while I finished my transition out of Google

The scary thing is not as much that they experimented on their users (they don't deserve better) as the kind of things they seem to be able to do.
Hivemind humanity is not so far anymore.
I never used facebook btw, but I guess github and linked-in are not much better.

> my sister sent me an email and it got forwarded to my new address
You shoud be glad that it can't be registered by someone else (yet), it could be used to "steal" your online identity. If your sister sent something to your old address, it means she still think it's yours, right? It may holds true for other people, what would have happened if someone else had registered it to send spam?

As scary is that looks at a glance, I'm really not convinced.
The connection they mention is incredibly weak, and Scgnews doesn't seem particularly credible.
Unless someone has a better source for this, I'm far more inclined to think that this was done by Facebook in the interest of Facebook.

Every day Anon feels embarrassed and keeps getting more red in the face?
I'm glad I never signed up for Facebook, but my mom insists on using it and putting up pictures of me.

Let's just fill the account with fake data, do not ever like anything brand related, use privacy extensions, do not check-in, do not tag, and do not let yourself be tagged. If they want to mine data, force them to deal with loads of noise, and little reward to make it worthy..

alternative: use facebook to game the system as much as possible, take advantage of their reliance on your honesty. If liking curly fries makes me a genius call me the next stephen hawking
