>>18591 a futuristic version of this walled city is a location in william gibson's book `idoru`

It's pretty amazing how much this place comes up, considering the fact that it hasn't existed for decades, now.

>>18631 How is Idoru; worth the read? >>18640 >tfw you're 21 what am I doing with my life also sadness https://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/hong-kong-says-goodbye-to-thousands-of-neon-signs

>>18591 >Not very cyber OF COURSE IT'S CYBER! HIGH TECH AND STREET LIFE = CYBER!!! Here's a magnet of the 1993 book: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:06BEE1BED4F896F79357E67815E879CB9FA087D3 >>18641 How fuarrrking boring and bland! And this is interesting: >Who has the right to amberize and archive a still-thriving culture? Who do these artifacts ultimately belong to? Has this collection ultimately sped up the process of removal? Come to think of it: In Botkyrka, a suburb of Stockholm there's a center for vocational training: Xenter. One of the programmes is sign design. And neon lights seems to be a craft that's taught. :3

>>18647 So you're telling me people actually pay to learn how to make signs?
Anonymous · 2015-11-03 11:58
>>18651 Do you have a DIY neon sign guide? Because, that would actually be pretty schway, despite the fact that I don't have any means of successfully bending glass...

>>18662 I would strive towards a semi-transparent glass full of leds (colored glass with white LEDs or transparent glass with colored LEDs) because I think it uses less power.

>>18591 >not very Cyber The Kowloon walled city was the most cyberpunk soykaf ever. Everything was illegal in there, the city was it's own government. People like butchers went to work there to avoid sanitary regulations. Just look at the pictures, imagine living there and walking through the alleys to get groceries while people are doing illegal stuff in the room right next to the store. God know what would have happened if it had lived to this internet era.

>>18689 only way I see another kowloon forming is through the creation a massive low-income housing project; like an arcology but for poor people. kowloon would have never had lasted as long as it did in the information age.

>>18669 you could probably assemble an array of LEDs into the shape you want to replicate that neon sign type of feel instead of just having a large rectangular panel with flashes patterns synchronously

>>18647 Thanks for the book! It's definitely not cheap, even used copies.
Anonymous · 2015-11-19 23:29
>>18662 What you could do is LEDs behind frosted plastic/glass. Something maybe like plexiglass or equivalent. It'll look cyber as fuarrrk.
