Programming on Stimulants

SHODAN · 2023-01-26 16:27
Long story short, I have bad inattentive-type ADHD and getting an official diagnosis and medicine is a complicated, very expensive and lengthy process in my country, so that's not an option. Caffeine and nicotine isn't enough unfortunately. So i've resorted to stronger stimulants available on the streets. I got some crystal meth but I don't plan on smoking it or use it for its euphoric properties, rather i've crushed it up into a fine powder and scoop a tiny bit which I drop into my drink of choice. 20 minutes in and I start to feel it, the fog in my brain is lifted, I process information much quicker, my focus is sharp, every thought is nice and organised into a fine neat order. Do I feel tweaked out? nope, on the contrary I actually start to feel calm and relaxed but sort of stimulated at the same time. Why meth? Even though a gram is pricey, its still pretty potent so I don't have to use much compared to plain street amphetamine which is usually full of impurities and solvents. The effects last much longer than cocaine too. People have also reported that Desoxyn (legal prescription methamphetamine) has less side effects than Adderall (legal prescription amphetamines) at lower doses. Does anybody else only program properly off stimulants? I can't see myself of doing a good job of programming sober with my retarded ADHD brain.

stop solving your problems with drugs. if your ADHD really went undiagnosed for this long i doubt it's real. don't fall for the late diagnosis trend. it's a lie. everyone has a hard time focusing, adapt and figure out how to deal with it. good luck lainanon

>>34113 >admin won't be happy You must be new here. I'm constantly telling people to avoid "therapy", don't do drugs, and just fix your problems, that are mostly self-indulgent "woah is me" thinking, not drinking enough water, not eating healthy, and not exercising. polite sage for off-topic

> Does anybody else only program properly off stimulants? I can't see myself of doing a good job of programming sober with my retarded ADHD brain. I also got some pretty bad inattentive ADHD. Avoid the pitfalls with this. Anyone with ADHD functions better with medication. That being said, it isn't magic. Things should still take effort to focus on, which should lead you to develop systems and routines that help you in keeping up with your soykaf whether or not you're able to take your medication. Don't end up convincing yourself that you need it to function, or that you can only do whatever skill high. You probably don't want that to become true. With that, careful to distinguish between taking enough to be 'medicated' and taking enough to not be 'sober'. Not sure whether that word choice is ESL or you drinking the soykaf.

I'm the opposite. Programming is literally the only thing I can do without ritalin but I need it for basically anything else. I don't know what it is but I can just sit down for hours and forget to eat or sleep writing code and when I try do it on ritalin I get tired after a while and I'm so much slower and it takes me ages to find issues or think of ideas.
stack · 2023-01-27 10:10
>>34115 >that are mostly self-indulgent "woah is me" thinking, not drinking enough water, not eating healthy, and not exercising. well said, i solved most of my mental illness by playing DDR and removing sugar from my diet, drinking lots of water, also admitting to myself that life is hard and to just deal with it. as for adhd, we humans are not designed to do mental-work for hours on end, we are designed to do physical work. of course we are going to have a hard time working in today's world. the people who adapt to this are the most successful in today's society, save inheritance clowns

I try to avoid posting when I visit a new forum/imageboard, but I have to make an exception here I've had had undiagnosed inattentive-ADD since I was 24/25. I dropped out of college twice, once at 19 once at 22. I'm 26 now and with half a year on Ritalin. I can with confidence say Ritalin is a fuarrrking miracle. But also it's not the end of the world if you don't have access to it. By the time I got my diagnosis I've already had a successful career, although with a lot of struggles and missed deadlines I'd say cognitive behavioral therapy is about the same strength of Ritalin. Ritalin is just harder to accidentally stop doing. Unfortunately I don't have a good source of how to start CBT. I've only ended up doing CBT because the same advise people give for productivity is the same advise for CBT. Probably the most impactful change is learning how to restructure your language to be non-defeatist. "I don't want to go to that party because I'll embarrass myself" vs "everyone embarrasses themselves so I should go to the party regardless". For productivity you just got to make it hard to mess up. Block sites that are not focused with work or study. Use a different room for study/work than relaxing. There's a lot more I'm not covering but " healthy gamer" has a YouTube series about it so watch that

You should get an Adderall prescription so that your dosage is more precise - street meth varies in purity to a degree that will make self-medicating inaccurate. Getting caught with meth is also a much bigger legal problem than getting caught with prescription Adderall.

You can get more work done on stimulants, anyone that denies that is delusional. However, I don't think in the long run it is that important to get much work done in a single sprint. It's more important to do a little over a long period of time than it is to do a lot right now. Rather than trying to do everything now and feel good about it, which working on meth allows, try doing just a bit every day even if it doesn't feel good. Even a tiny bit as long as it keeps repeating over a long period of time is going to count more towards building anything stable.

>>34341 You're supposed to get off of those forms of medications inevitably. The issue is that doctors prescribe it but don't care enough to make sure it's being used properly. The point of it is to quit bad habits and build good ones then stop using it. Most people use it as a form of consumer grade meth.
Yuki Nagato · 2023-02-23 03:07
>>34366 You are spot on. People are consoooming fast media on the internet when they have free time and then wonder why they have such a hard time focusing on things. Well two and a half months later, are you addicted yet? You stupid naïve fuarrrk? Look I was there too, went from coffee -> ritalin -> concerta -> meth, addicted to meth for a couple years though. Started slow telling myself these sweet lies: "I'll put the shards in capsules take it responsibly!!" look dude I hope you're joking this is serious stuff this is coming from firsthand experience meth is super dangerous even if you only take it orally, it is the most addicting drug for adhd/autistic retards like you and me, don't take this soykaf you will fuarrrk up your life. Start lifting weights instead, if you already lift then lift harder, diet more disciplined, push those PR's. I used to inject 700mg shots of jib when I was at my peak addiction, had homeless people living in my apt paying rent in shards, jacking off for 8 hours straight chaffing my dick, thinking I'm the strongest man alive while 135lbs at 5"10. Don't touch it, and if you did go to rehab NOW.

>>35064 OP here. I bring good news and bad news. Good news is I never got addicted nor did I fall in love with it. Bad news is overall, it did not help my ADHD much, I spent the highs mostly cleaning my house and myself after intense wanking sessions.

>>35071 That's a common lie people tell themselves like the idea that willpower is limited or that people are "born geniuses" none of which are true. Neuroplasticity never goes away and those who choose to continue exercising their "muscles" see a high level of cognitive function well into their 100's. If you consistently challenge yourself and learn new things you won't see the degradation associated with age just like if you exercise a lot you won't see the feebleness associated with old age. The majority of aging people we see lived sedentary lives, because of that their bones, muscles, and joints are severely under-worked and as a consequence their health deteriorates rapidly because it was already awful to begin with. Yet those who continue a healthy lifestyle see their body remain well. Your body will get rid of what you aren't using, and this leads to a lot of the tendonitis and diminished physicality that you experience in life even as early as 20. The same goes for cognition, if you live a highly monotonous, repetitive, comfortable life lacking any novelty or stimulation, you will see your cognition decline. For some anecdotes: A professor I know taught themselves ReactJS web development over 1 month, they're 80. A relative lived on a farm their whole life until they died, they lived to the age of 98 and could still play soccer (though obviously not competitively). They fell when they were 90, but didn't sustain any lasting injuries because their bone density and health was great. If you've convinced yourself that "old dog's don't learn new tricks", then you wont. It starts with you and a commitment to always transform and grow.
cdr · 2023-04-12 16:11
>>35082 It's no coincidence that the supposed decline starts in your mid-20s, right around the time people start settling into long-term careers and relationships.
