Algorithm Questions

Hi lain, So I am a learning Web Developer and I am pretty good with understanding the concepts and working around with the frameworks and the practical stuff. Yet I am just dumb, like zero when it comes to algorithms. I just don't know how to implement the easiest question yet when I look at the solution I can get it. What am I supposed to do? I don't need super technical algorithmical stuff, but enough to get me through interviews.

-Cracking the Coding Interview -the Algorithm Design Manual read through those books, practice some leetcode.

It's not useful to think of this as an "algorithms problem". If you can't come up with a solution to easy problems, your problem is basic problem solving skills (e.g. understanding the question and breaking down the task). If you can look at a white board solution and understand what you need to do but can't code it, your problem is coding that kind of thing (e.g. juggling the state of multiple pointers). If your problem is that you can create a solution but it's too slow, your problem is that you don't yet know the strategies and tricks. In all cases, the solution is more deliberate practice and reading other people's code. You can ignore the person who suggested The Algorithm Design Manual.

>>34005 >If you can look at a white board solution and understand what you need to do but can't code it, your problem is coding that kind of thing this is exactly my problem. i can get the solution pathway in my head and i could whiteboard it if i needed to but for code i have to google everything.

>>34008 >this is exactly my problem. i can get the solution pathway in my head and i could whiteboard it if i needed to but for code i have to google everything. So your only real problem is being a beginner, keep at it and eventually you won't need to google anymore.

>>34005 I agree with this anon but just like to add something to you wanting to know enough to interviews: read cracking the coding interview and do leetcode. To learn algorithms for real, I would recommend watching "Introduction to Algorithms" course from MIT and using Cormen's book as a support to the video lessons.
