Curious how we don't have no lainchan-oriented development thread. An imageboard itself is a very extendable concept and yet not that much discussion on development on top of lainchan or with lainchan itself. Engine development itself would technically be more of a /q/ thing but software/hardware engineering wise it would belong more on /lambda/. -- Myself, I'd made a tiny userscript that caches longer posts as drafts (mentioned in >>>/q/7848), https://git.lain.church/apoc/userscripts/src/branch/master/lainchan-drafts.js You? A stylesheet, a script? A client? Perhaps an engine like >>>/lambda/26674 or want to close an issue/PR in github.com/lainchan/lainchan?

Every blue moon I hear someone talk about rewriting lainchan/vichan in X Y Z lang, and I remember Appleman talk about one specific hard software problem that most imageboard solutions don't solve, which makes rewrites a non-starter. I keep forgetting what the software problem was though. I think it was some interaction between post# increments and file uploads? I don't quite remember, so I'm never able to reserve time to solve the problem on my own.

Most Lainons are desktop users, right? How do we feel about a python app that converts lainchan into a stylish real-time chat? (Threads would basically be chatrooms) Maybe you can get similar results with userscripts.

>>33681 Why not just join the IRC? It was made for that exact purpose.

>>33681 >How do we feel about a python app that converts lainchan into a stylish real-time chat? Bad. Real-time communication encourages low-effort, throwaway messages, which are at odds with lainchan's imageboard culture. When the same old medium is presented in a new way that has a different set of costs and payoffs, it will necessarily impact user behaviour over time - as already said, better keep real-time for media that were always intended to be real-time.

||lainchan.org/*/thumb/*$image Its not much but here's a ublock filter to hide all thumbnails.

>>33681 >>33694 Different lainon here -- what about the style of mail clients? They tend to have a high-cost style of composing, and I think desktop features like saved drafts would help promote high-quality posts (so long as antifeatures for low-volume chans like canned responses are staved off).

>>33764 that's something that would be more inline with the idea of an imageboard.
