did PLC code at a factory for an internship, they like me enough so that they want me to come back to lead a group of electricians.
seems like leadership experience will look good on a resume, but i feel like it is also in the opposite direction of actual programming/computer engineering

talk to them about it, they might be able work with you on it

Maybe. PLC programming is a discipline unto itself with its own set of challenges. The technical skills and intuitions for the most part don't transfer in either direction. But in a world full of general purpose programmers and PLC programmers, maybe there's something to be said for being someone who does both?

Try it. The leadership experience will carry over if you wanted to lead a software engineering project. And who knows, you may go and like PLCs more.
I've been trying quite a lot of different soykaf and I think it's a good idea. In the worst case you'll resign.

PLC work means you're a lot closer to the hardware, that alone makes you a better engineer since you'll learn more about the physical results of your code.

It's just Ladder Logic, not embedded. It's menial and totally separate from actual programming.
