Living in the fast Lain

gitgood · 2015-11-20 16:55
I'm making a Visual Novel, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in contribooting. It's about Lain Iwakura, a Japanese exchange student who transfers to MIT. When she arrives, she meets none other than her classmate RMS. They develop a complex, almost abusive relationship with interesting dynamics. Plus it has 100% of your daily recommended memes. Living in the fast Lain. Any suggestions are highly welcome!!

Will Linus Torvalds be in it to swoop in at the last second to take lain away from him?
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 18:51
>>12177 >In this game, we aren't laughing with RMS. We're laughing at him. That's rude. How much of this game do you have finished? Where is the current source?
gitgood · 2015-11-20 18:53

>>12183 >A Visual Novel about romance, and technloli/g/. It doesn't feel right to call this techloli/g/. This is a pretty distinct culture from /g/. Anyways, good luck, I guess.

>>12184 Took your advice.
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 21:23
Oh God OP, I wish you the best of luck, also I'd recommend adding Linus in the game and maybe he and RMS can fight for Lain or something. This could be something like a harem.

F*ck you if you f*cking put lain in a sexual situation, with that disgusting tub of lard nonetheless, I will hunt you down and haxx your anus until there is nothing left. I am a professional programmer and can literally turn your computer into a ticking time bomb. You have been warned.

>>12203 Not him, but at least Ren'Py runs on all major operating systems, so you wouldn't need Wangblows to play it.

>>12169 Please make this double NTR. I want Lain to catch RMS having sex with dead plants and get grossed out. She then turns to Torvalds and he fuarrrks her better than RMS ever could. But she doesn’t stop there, next comes Larry Wall, Bjarne Stroustrup, Kalyx, Kenneth Thompson, Guido Van Rosum before engaging in some necrophilia of her own with Dennis Ritchie. RMS, with his low sex drive and lust for plants is unphased "It's not like lain comes under a proprietary licence or anything". Lain now on a mission to hurt RMS as much as possible begins to fuarrrk Bill Gates causing RMS to kill himself, Gates and, unfortunately, Lain in one night of bloody GNU flavoured revenge.

gitgood · 2015-11-23 01:34
>>12285 Thanks for showing the error! How did it appear? Just as soon as you started the game, or did you have to do something? I've a vague idea of what's caused it but I'm not entirely sure. The only thing that possibly could from the error is importing the python module "webbrowser". I'm inclined to call it a RenPy issue
Anonymous · 2015-11-23 01:35
>>12283 Gahnew/Linux >>12284 I did that by extracting and running the .sh file. It didn't work though.
Anonymous · 2015-11-23 01:39
>>12286 I was talking to Steve Jobs and right before you get the "thank mr skeltal" option I tried to save the game. I was thinking it might be a privilege problem, but I launched it with the .sh script from terminal so it should still be able to save/modify/create files.. Trying to recreate the error; I can save right after starting the game - no problem, but saving while talking to Jobs froze the game just now
gitgood · 2015-11-23 01:41
>>12288 Okay, thanks. I found a forum post with someone who has the exact same error, and it was down to the fact that they imported a library after the game has started (which I've did). So I'll just move the import to the init block. Cheers for the help.

Anonymous · 2015-11-23 11:26
>>12169 Make it retro, in the 80s so its not quite so creepy. RMS was still young and ripped by then, Linus still in university (if its the late 80s) and you could include all the lore about Lisp machines and Symbolics vs. whatever the other AI enterprise was named. Include Steve Jobs as young, good looking but dumb-as-bricks design fetishist and his sidekick wozynak (idk ho hes spelled). Thats already 4 different characters for Lain to possibly romance.
Anonymous · 2015-11-23 11:30
>>12304 Also, assuming you are indeed tech-savy and not just another memelord, include tons of technical information and trivia about that time and the technologies behind Lisp, Lisp machines, Emacs, AI, GNU and UNIX. It would be something like "The Visual Novel guide to computer science" (similar to "the manga guide to...") If you need more information about this time, you should really read "Hackers, heroes of the computer revolution"
Anonymous · 2015-11-23 12:32
>>12306 that was only a small excerpt from the actual book I wanted to post, sorry.
gitgood · 2015-11-23 23:18
>>12304 That seems too serious, and the whole thing is basically a way for me to wedge memes. Feel free to fork it and do what you suggest, but Uni means I don't have much time to work on it and I kinda want to keep it short and stupid.
Anonymous · 2015-11-24 00:58
>>12313 Which Uni? Is it perhaps MIT? Are you staying in Baker House? Have you met Lain? >btw Baker House does not have single rooms for freshmen. I don't know if Lain would be considered a freshman because she transferred but, I thought I'd let you know. Did you fuarrrk her along with 10 other men. I need to know.

Yeah definitely images of young hackers! However, they need to be in color.
