In Depth Morphis testing

So I used to communicate with the programmer of morphis but hes disappeared for about 2 months now. Morphis didnt get any press coverage and barely has anyone who knows about it. Morphis already works as a distributed datastore and deprecates email. There is a distributed, fully encrypted, email replacement built into morphis and you can upload anything. morphis detects when you upload html and allows you to create free distributed webites. I think it'd be really smart for lainchan to look through the code and experiment with it and test it out because this has huge potential but was barely ever given a chance. https://morph.is/v0.8/ lets share some uploads here and see how fast it can get when we have a lot of connections. also, share Dmail keys. To run download from morph.is extract to a folder, open terminal in folder and run ./run.sh if you need sqalchemy use pip3 install sqalchemy also check the readme heres a wallpaper for your troubles http://localhost:4251/qhq8w779ysbebkgxzxq9gryucmjb54kcexaryu9epoa1xaet9d5j4awdmqduykkcb3or6ksz963ecdydqk43n1c3p1inf771rn58qyr if you install the firefox plugin you can use morphis:// i believe

First things first somebody who knows security needs to check it over.

WEB UI: ------- Then simply point your web browser to http://localhost:4251. I recommend using the MORPHiS firefox plugin that will be listed on the front page when you hit localhost:4251. (ANY DEVS THAT CAN HELP WITH THIS DEAD SIMPLE PLUGIN WILL BE SUPER APPRECIATED!) You can also use curl or wget: Download: curl http://localhost:4251/<whatever_key> Example: curl http://localhost:4251/sp1nara3xhndtgswh7fznt414we4mi3y Upload: curl --data-binary @somefile.ext http://localhost:4251/.upload/upload SSH CONSOLE UI: --------------- Simply type: ssh 127.0.0.1 -p 4250 And you will get the interactive console. Or you can pass the command through the ssh command: ssh 127.0.0.1 -p 4250 ? NOTE: You must type 127.0.0.1. Usually localhost resolves to ::1 which I will add later but right now MORPHiS ONLY allows shell connection from 127.0.0.1. NOTE: You will need to have an RSA key setup for your ssh. It doesn't mater what the key is for now (later it will support key pinning). To generate a key, type: ssh-keygen -b 4096 MCC COMMAND LINE UI: -------------------- Just type: python3 mcc.py --stat NOTE: This client is not up to speed. The WEB UI is the most mature by far as I did it last and most people will be using it so it made sense to have it the one ready for this first release. I will bring the other 2 interfaces up to speed and they will always be fully supported as up to speed, all 3. Tor --- MORPHiS was designed from the beginning to not leak information and to be used over Tor! I still have to add SOCKS support, but I recently found a good library for that so it will come very soon. However, until then, you can use proxychains to run MORPHiS over Tor! proxychains python3 node.py It has been tested and it works great. It also works over torsocks if you --dm (disables the web UI). There is a bug in torsocks that causes torsocks to segfault on startup if you do not disable Maalstroom (--dm). I debugged it and will be able to submit a patch to the Tor project so they can fix it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact (d-mail): samzu1ctt7kscitkrt5jft91gtw5c1i6 :) Contact (e-mail): sam2015@morph.is :(

I have a few questions. How does this practically differ from https://ipfs.io/ when it comes to the web page aspect? I can read from the white paper about dmail that the spam protection relies on sender side proof of work. How can you stop the sender from removing that part from his source code? Is it similar to the bitcoin proof of work? I find the concepts for these kind of projects to always be hard to grasp. I think you have done a better job explaining than most, but it could still be better. It seems like people get so hung up on the idea of the project and refuse to simplify the actual inner workings for easy explanations. Cool project over all and I really enjoy the fact that the creator dares to follow his own ideology. The problem with this and similar projects is that its not backwards compatible. No one wants to use dmail unless everyone else uses it and no one wants to host their site on ipfs if no one uses it. It's the chicken and the egg problem. No content = no users and no users = no content.

testing file uploading. Seems fast enough, I don't know how fast the downloads are though(could only test frin localhost).

>>12147 yeah things load suprisingly quick. I know you can upload videos and watch them too. html uploads work too
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 13:39
How does this compare to IPFS? It seems to be overlapping in functionality from what a quick read can tell
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 16:25
>>12162 someone should create a table categorizing, comparing, and contrasting all these distributed projects because shit's getting out of hand and there is a lot of overlap. - Freenet - Tor - i2p - Retroshare - IPFS - Morphis - GNUnet Obviously they aren't all comparable, Tor and IPFS are completely different, but you get the point.
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 18:10
>>12162 well ipfs i believe is just a decentralized data store. Morphis in the long run plans on bringing its own decentralized irc, imageboard, forums, email (done), video streaming.
Anonymous · 2015-11-20 22:36
>>12167 yeah, a lainzine article about that would be pretty neat. morphis seems to have a lot of potential.
Anonymous · 2015-11-21 08:17
>>12167 It's been said that GNUnet should go in the middle.
Anonymous · 2015-11-21 20:10
All I keep hearing about is multiple people wanting to put IPFS onto I2P. That does aeem like it would complete everything one needs.

>>12053 I've heard that if you develop a new crypto without informing the NSA, you will disappear mysteriously.
Anonymous · 2015-11-21 22:49
>>12225 that seems like it would be interested. The thing i dont like about i2p is that after so many years they still have this awful UI/X. >>12227 the guy released what he looks like and his real name Sam Maloney so if this happened people couldnt impersonate him.

Anonymous · 2015-11-21 23:57
>>12231 for something like this, older is better more tested and look through by more people and there is actually a decent revival of it happening right now on /g/ which I'm just thrilled about even in it"s current state, this is the only one of these I've played with that I feel actually has the potential to usurp torrents as a primary means of mass distributing and sharing files even by pleebs, which is important all these other things, though very cool, don't seem viable whereas gnunet feels like it actually could change everything we're gonna work on a better interface for the filesharer and hopefully make setting it up brainless/automatic love to have anyone interested join us #/g/nunet on rizon

>>12243 The thing with gnunet is that i don't know what the hells going on or how to get into it. Im pretty flexible with i2p and most things but it just seems so old and unreasonably complex. A guide for the next lain zine would be cool
Anonymous · 2015-11-22 07:31
>>12244 their wobpage is very nice and informative and quite helpful and explicit https://gnunet.org/ there've been some inconsistent issues with install and what happens after depending on what OS you're using, but nothing that would prevent it from being used you run gnunet-arm -s to start it and you're in (if it autostarted on root or something you may have to sudo pkill gnunet and start fresh) search and download with gnunet-fs it's that easy everything just works read the man pages and stuff on their site if you have questions and really want answers, go ask the devs on freenode #gnunet it's the least complex and most straightforward one of these I know except for maybe retroshare - but that feels more like a hoaky torrent client that's trying to do too much https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/GNUnet
Anonymous · 2015-11-22 07:56
>>12248 there really should be a repo we can just add and install it instead of manually installing all the dependencies etc.

Anonymous · 2015-11-22 08:41
>>12251 there are, depending on your OS Debian here, just had sudo apt-get install gnunet gnunet-gtk ironically, the distros supposedly experiencing the fewest issues are Arch and Parabola note too that if you are going to roll your own from their svn, 0.10.1 and 0.10.2 aren't currently compatible or something you won't be able to download from anyone using the older version

>>12176 All the things you just said are in practice different ways of decentralized data storage...
Anonymous · 2015-11-24 01:25
