"Not for commercial use", what does that *really* mean?

Anonymous · 2015-11-10 23:52
So there's a really sweet commercial IDE that's free when you doesn't use it for commercial purposes. So you use it to code easier. Then your iOS or Android program is ready and you re-compile the source code it on compiler that doesn't have the same restrictions. Anyone with two co-operating brain cells can realize that you used the non-commercial IDE to make it easier for you and only used the other compiler in order to not make any formal errors. So when will they charge money? After you started make money on the program?

>>11881 Visual COBOL.* But I'm curious about the "not for commercial use"-clause in general. *) MicroFocus is an interesting company. Good products, but a not even bad support team.

>>11909 You're writing apps in COBOL? Wtf?
Anonymous · 2015-11-12 17:51
>>11909 > Visual COBOL Wtf I hope that's just COBOL integration to the visual studio IDE and not a COBOL variant. Because that would be a recipe for disaster worse than Visual Basic. Anyways this sort of QA is better for programmers.stackexhange.com. My thoughts are if its just COBOL then its just an honor system. They may have record that you have record that you have a free copy of their product and if they find you are selling commercial COBOL programs then they might assert you made it with their product even if you used a gnu compiler. But if Visual COBOL is a COBOL variant then you can only use their compiler. >>11913 COBOL devs make mad cash cause crazy job security. Some important legacy software is COBOL like the wall st stock exchange.

>>11991 Why not? COBOL + SQL in some kind of shell would be pretty cool.

>So when will they charge money? After you started make money on the program? After software patent laws and copyright laws make that hilarious system valid.
