Which one do you guys use and why? I've been using GitHub for a while now but decided to give GitLab a try. I'm loving it so far and I think I'm going to change.

Which one to use if all you want are private repos?
Anonymous · 2017-10-10 21:47
GitHub for everything I don't intend to make money off. GitLab for a single other project.

I've never understood the complaint about private repos on github. Why do you care? Do you think anybody will read your bad code? Are you really working on such a big closed source project that it needs a bug tracker and all of github's features? I use github because that's what's popular, and if I was working on some closed source stuff with other people I'd host gitlab on a personal server.

GitHub if you don't mind sharing your code. GitLab if you want your project to be private.

Bitbucket only if I'm using private repo. Bitbucket+Github if its open source. I set up 2 pushurls so a git push automatically pushes to both at once.

I use bitbucket because it works perfectly well and gives me unlimited private repositories.

I just recently started dipping my toes with git and hosting services. I started with GitHub but would probably use something else for private repos if I needed to.

>>4257 I'm >>4254 and I don't see any complaint. What's wrong with wanting private repos?

>>4267 There is nothing is wrong with private repositories or keeping to yourself. What you make doesn't have to be free software, open source or even visible to anyone. >>4257 Lots of people on GitHub clone other people's repositories and then reupload it to their accounts to make it seem like they own the project. It's a side effect of GitHub turning into a résumé of sorts. >>4266 There's no reason you can't use all of them. Setting up an additional remote to push to is a pretty simple matter.
