IBNIZ - Ideally Bare Numeric Impression giZmo

I just found this interesting thing that generates audio and visuals by input of it's esoteric programming language.
Website: http://pelulamu.net/ibniz/
Blogpost: http://countercomplex.blogspot.com/2011/12/ibniz-hardcore-audiovisual-virtual.html
Pic Related is what the program looks like
I'm interested at seeing what the capabilities are so I'm sharing it here to see what you all can make. Look at the comments of the blogpost for inspiration.

fuarrrk YEAR IBNIZ
I've been trying to get people to check this thing out for so long.
Dude"s whole blog is wonderful highly recommend reading the whole thing chronologically.

yee ibniz is cool, i've come across it a couple of times
something similar but w/o audio output is here

here's a fun one

You can have some really nice visuals with very litle code

I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm still getting some results. Are there any lainons who know how to use this language?

This is very cool. Thanks Lain.

Here's the documentation. If you're familiar with FORTH you should feel right at home.

Some annoying things I noticed:
1) As it says in the documentation, the VM switches between TYX and T modes automatically. This is not really an issue most of the time, but it takes the control from the user nevertheless and I would really prefer to do it manually.
2) The documentation says that the = word outputs 1 on the stack if the top of the stack is 0, and 0 zero otherwise, but that's wrong. It outputs 1 if the top of the stack is not 0 and 0 otherwise. If you want the behavior described in the documentation, you gotta use =1^.
3) The program cannot handle nested conditionals. Just as it says in the documentation, the ? word really does skip until the next : or ; without trying to match them with ?'s that it encounters on the way. You can see this behavior in the attachment: if nested conditionals were handled properly, it should output a dark shade of gray, but it outputs white instead. This is by far the most severe problem because it inhibits any sort of advanced programming. If somebody knows a way around this and could tell I would appreciate it greatly.

I think the only way to get what you want would be to change it yourself. Maybe there can be a community owned version in which we can make our own changes as the author doesn't seem at all active on github.

Done. Only one file, named vm_slow.c needed changing. Here's the patched version:

I was able to implement Conway's Game of Life with it:

I'm not sure of such a thing on github as everyone who uses it needs an account.

I had no clue we had actual programming gods on this board.
Good job by the way, are incredibly short programs for complicated things common with esoteric languages.

>I had no clue we had actual programming gods on this board.
You mean all the threads on obscure programming languages and concepts didn't tip you off?

Its actually really cool thanks, and i ll mess around with this, but is there any way to do similar things with C ?( Im talking about the background.) Any library?
Agent Jones · 2018-01-24 06:14

You could make something similar with any graphics library. Stuff like sdl, opengl or even graphics.h make it simple to play around if you know the basic math.
