I've written a utility that allows you to search locally stored image and video files based on tags. It can both pull tags from imageboorus, and infer them using a local model. Unlike similar utilities, it requires almost 0 setup, has a familiar UX and works with native file managers.
It supports both Windows and Linux, though you'll have to build it yourself on the latter as I'm not sure what the best way to ship it is.

Added a standard AppImage to the release.

I personally prefer to rename the files to hold the list of tags and then use normal filesystem search as tag search. Keeps things simple.

Have you automated that process? What do you do about images which don't come from an imagebooru?

I use SmilingWolf/wd-v1-4-swinv2-tagger-v2, I posted about it recently here:

Not sure about cross-board references, lets use this opportunity to test:

Thanks, I lol'd how the image I posted actually had the hint to this accidentally.

If all you care about it supporting KDE, you could put those tags in the user.xdg.tags extended attributes. Baloo indexes those.

Good to know, but why to do that, when having them in filename is universal and portable. They're even present when posted online:
> File: 1782680750354-0.jpg (597.65 KB, 2120x3000, 53:75, wd14,1girl,solo,long_hair,….jpg) ImgOps Exif iqdb
You can download that attached image with full list of tags and you will have them too, all in the name.
Anyway, I might need to step away from KDE/Plasma after 6.8 release if by the moment it releases I will be dependent on Wine software that needs X11 for full capabilities.

Databases can generally be queried a lot faster than filesystems. So if you have thousands of files spread throughout multiple sub-directories, I don't know how well that scales. You can also search by metadata too, like the width of the image.

Also, you don't have to worry about partial matches polluting your results. "idol" would match both "idol" "idolmaster" and "key_the_metal_idol".

I believe the same Baloo builds a full text search index, so in terms of performance it does scale fine. Regarding >>44393 I kinda agree this might be desired, but I would actually want partial match in most cases because I can't be sure about remembering full tag names, and I'd rather handle more results than needed than deal with less results than needed and guess which is the real tag name I'm looking for. So I can type "miku" instead of "hatsune_miku", "star" instead of "star_symbol", etc. The biggest downside in my approach I can think of is inconvenience of multiple tag search, for example to find both "miku" and "blush" I need to do both miku.*blush and blush.*miku because ordering of these tags in filename can be different.

My bad, it's actually possible with regexes like shown on the first screenshot, but regexes don't work with Baloo. However Baloo supports searching for multiple terms on its own as shown on the second screenshot, but... it doesn't work in Dolphin for some reason, only in terminal.

Ouch, forgot to attach screenshots. It's too hot, I need to turn on AC.

Version 2.2 is out. It can now be used as a Hydrus front-end, for people who already use that. It makes files easy to access without needing to export them.
