How long until programming requires a license or is derezzed entirely?
Drano · 2026-03-31 02:43
what? why would it
fwiw at least when i went to high school not too long ago programming was a compulsory subject, so banning it would be quite a shift

I draw your attention to Chapter 12, "Projections: FOSS Governance in 2030", and note that recent news about age verification in the operating system.
They have an interest in reducing the freedom we've enjoyed. Programming being derezzed is hyperbole... but the threat of policing 'wrong programming' is very real.

I think that'll be impossible to fully do but they'll slowly phase out mainstream control over your machine like they have been forever now. Maintain a collection of operating systems and software such as drivers/torrenting software/tor etc stuff they want gone- because someday it'll be like gold

They don't view it like that, their angle is primarily to get a piece of the pie of the markets involved in software distribution. I don't believe they realize that e.g. Debian's software "market" doesn't involve any money changing hands.

In theory, just pressing buttons is "programming" too.
