But seriously, many are obsessed with this idyllic idea that "the programmer of the future doesn't write code, they generate ideas!" (pfff, how cute) But what will happen if the entire internet infrastructure goes to hell? I don't think everyone has the computing power to have their own ChatGPT locally, not to mention that your ⛤⛥✴︎ premium ✴︎⛥⛤ account will be practically useless. This was already seen in that incident where Cloudflare took down a large part of the whole network infrastructure. I'm sure going to laugh my ass off at those who say that studying software engineering is obsolete if that happens.

If the internet goes down in any significant way, you're better off knowing survival skills than how to code.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm already doing it. I do also have "real life" hobbies you know? Tinkering with computers is just one of em'

I don't think it'll be that the vibecoding dipshits will be entirely SOL if there's a prolonged outage given alot of them do run local models. Despite not having access to trillion dollar server farms, those models do, for a given term, 'work.' Again, as >>44021 said, in a prolonged outage you'll be better off knowing how to dress a carcass than how to write code.
>the programmer of the future doesn't write code, they generate ideas!" (pfff, how cute)
It really just goes to show how AIbros think: they really are just idea guys. I do look forward to seeing all digital infrastructure crash in around 40 years' time because all the people who wrote it had their digital interns doing all the actual programming, and have no idea how any of it works. GAI doesn't make programmers obsolete for the same reason robotics don't make engineers obsolete.

If you're going to make a machine that governs our entire lives, and is beyond our ability to understand, you better design it perfectly. Because if it ever breaks down, we are toast.

Don't threaten me with a good time.

Doesn't have to be this catastrophic. Could be as small as the service they rely on goes down or they start charging significantly more.
