Send me documentations thx
ultimate_soykaf_spitter · 2025-12-29 16:23
Considering I'm kind of optimistic for 2026, I want to dedicate some of my current NEET life into programming again... but the problem is that I stopped programming since a lot of years and I forgot many skills. Idk I'm here, even if this place worsened in terms of userbase after covid, to ask to the few oldfarts who remained if you could share some old documentations about C++ and SDL (the main languages I want to understand, in case of C++ it's more re-studying but whatever I'm an ignorant goat anyway), basically stuff to try out making applications and minigames in 2d using plain images
I don't trust to download any pdf or other files, so send links to achieve that or just mention the books I should in your opinion learn thx
Thank you
And fuarrrk you needy stream overload fans
Knuth · 2025-12-29 21:44
you wanna learn C++? really?
why?
ultimate_soykaf_spitter · 2025-12-30 09:41
>>43754
I already studied it in the past and, honestly, it has a good way of portraying programming writing and logics that I see in other programming languages
cond · 2025-12-30 16:26
This thread absolutely is like kicking dead whales down the beach, seriously this is the state of the super underground le epic programming imageboard nowadays?

Order a C++ reference book online, seriously go read THE reference/specification, this advice goes the same for any programming language that you would want to learn intimately but in-actuality before you pick up a reference book, read an Operating Systems book since it would actually allow you to understand what you programming language/compiler is doing before you start writing code
>>43754
Because it's a programming language that pays, as you can see; OP has some self-awareness and is most likely trying to get a job in some interesting field instead of going down the Java Enterprise catshit
>>43755
>it has a good way of portraying programming writing and logics
that's inherent to the paradigm and how the user thinks but is completely orthogonal to how computers work another developer for-example might think that a dependent typed programming language is intuitive for that person.
But good for you and I completely support your decition.

I'm sorry that IB people have lives now and are outside the internet because they actually have to pay bills, if you want you should move to leddit where there's a fuarrrkton of activity sprinkled with brainrot

I'm also trying to learn c++ Here's some of the books I have been using for it
>Too scared too open pdfs

If still too scared just read the filenames.
The one for compsci and engineering is the 4th edition by Vic Broquard.

If you're good at programming you're probably too employed to spend time writing high quality imageboard posts. I know I am. So it's just the newbies on many places such as this

Let me know when you see the irony of making a thread about picking up on a programming on a programming-focused imageboard while complaining about how this place has gone to soykaf

Would you also like a massage and your comfy pajamas with that, master? Why open yet another thread asking for help with your homework without giving something in exchange, you lazy f*ck. Learn how to use the Web! If this is your mentality before even starting the year, oh boy, 2026 is going to be a nightmare, pal. Better give up and find another hobby.

Some employers will not even look at your portfolio if you don't have (recent) C++ code to show, so there's that.
t. know C++ but don't actively write it. Incidentally also started writing a small 2D game as a small side project to show that I do in fact know how to read and write C++.

Ppl so lonely they have to insult me just to show how they don'tt have friends to pass on the New Year and spit censored words like if they're the true ones who lived in this imageboard. Wow this thread turned full of salt, thx guys
And yes this place turned bad for the amount of fascists and other racists/bigoted idiots. Back in 2019 it was an actual anarchoid heaven with actual drug users who spitted on any gaming industry-consumist saying "make your own game", a thing that's blatantly forgotten because y'all are crying newbies. Happy new year and improve your life somehow

Ah, I love it when the truth hurts so much that someone resorts to cheap ad hominem attacks that assume what one's life is like. It's obvious that you're one of those kids who want to appear special (given your delusions of grandeur just for visiting this board), but whose laziness and apathy mean that, at best, they are mediocre. But look, I'll lend you this so you can see that I'm not picking on you just because:
https://lazyfoo.net/tutorials/SDL/
Pretty good and comprehensive, unless you think it's too mainstream for your taste.
>>but the problem is that I stopped programming since a lot of years and I forgot many skills.
Let's see how long it takes you to give up again. Considering that you need others to solve your problems and you get angry and defensive when someone tells you to be more proactive, I guess it won't be long—much less in a professional environment where people have a worse attitude than mine.

Thank you for the site, and stop attacking me yourself thx
I don't look at myself to be this special to know this site, I just got angry for the kind of userbase I've found after some time I stopped visiting it, like I've seen actual nazis arguing here on how much their political ideas are great... like wtf. It's great that, aside our arguings, in this thread there aren't worse kinds of users

How did I even insult you in >>43764 ? I just found it ironic to complain about the userbase of a place that focuses on something that you're completely oblivious to. If anything, you're the one that started the slap fight by assuming various stuff about me from less than 200 characters lol
>And yes this place turned bad for the amount of fascists and other racists/bigoted idiots. Back in 2019 it was an actual anarchoid heaven with actual drug users
Politics, drugs and video games have almost nothing to do with the culture of this imageboard lmao, you're an absolute soykaflord for spending 6 years here while not knowing anything about the most frequented boards. For literally any online place who stands for free speech, there's always going to be a few obnoxious retards who spout their propaganda in a futile attempt to indoctrinate others, throwing a hissy fit over that is only going to motivate them further.

you're right, my point is that I see a hyperinflation of that after covid to make me feel unease with this imageboard. If you still insist I don't have place here idk your take, I don't think that I want to talk outside of this thread

This is true, it got way worse around 2019-2020 though.

IMHO you should probably learn programming fundamentals over just learning some language. Good books for that are like HtDP or SICP, but they both use Lisp-family languages. I recommend picking up a book on fundamentals that just uses C++ examples if you specifically want C++. Try this?: https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/144

Hi. I'm the one who made these stupid comments:
>>43765
>>43771
Only these, others are not me. I'm being honest.
First of all: I am genuinely sorry for being such an assh*le (I censor the swearing because I want to avoid the site writing other stuff instead of that word, I despise censorship). If we were in real life, I would seriously allow you to punch me in whatever site you may see fit (even my balls), just as a genuine gesture of regret. You do not deserve a random idiot plain insulting you just because he can.
You know, I just want people to be the better version of themselves. But after getting irreverent answers or plain insults in response when I tried to achieve it in a less... let's say aggressive and pedantic way, It really started to affect me negatively; and added to the fact that I've been having a rough few days, I ended up becoming the thing I hate most: an aggressive random loser on the web. If something terrible happens to me this year, I'm not going to complain. Quite the contrary, my reaction will be to think to myself, “Why you didn't just die, fuarrrk*in' moron?”
Whatever, I'm just talking nonsense now. I don't know if you'll read this, and I'm not asking you to forgive me. The closest thing to “forgiveness” would be to let you shoot me. Maybe it's just a forced, pathetic, and try-hard way to redeem my sins.
I implore you: don't give up. The world needs creative minds now more than ever.
Oh, one more thing... if by any chance you speak or understand Spanish, I recommend this channel:
https://www.youtube.com/@ProfesorRetroman
He teaches you how to program games... in assembly language. If you can, I hope you'll take up the challenge. I wish you a wonderful 2026, and a wonderful life in general.

That sdl tut is very useful and nicely formated for reading, so far i found it a good overview.
Im looking toward taking more advantage of sdl and getting familiar with sdl3.
Also may i recommend you take advantage of the game engines available http://torque3d.org
They are very good and flexible plus licensed as mit x11 so you can use them for whatever no strings attached.

Lazy Foo is working on a port for SDL 3 of his tutorial. Sadly, a lot of things did changed since V2 and is not that trivial to make a whole new series about this new version (I'm saying this quoting him and from my own experience). Meanwhile, I want to present a graphics motor that, while not strictly aimed towards game programming, in my opinion is phenomenal and a great option to get started:
https://irrlicht.sourceforge.io/
Written in C++, it has a lot of awesome things:
* Nice documentation.
* An API with self-explanatory headers and classes.
* A vivid, passionate community.
And the best of all:
https://irrlicht.sourceforge.io/?page_id=291
Excellent tutorials that will help anyone with the goal of creating a basic game in relative short time. Also, it's completely open source and you can freely modify it to suit your own needs.
Oh, and if you wish to design your own 3D models but your computer is low-spec or you do not like Blender, I recommend this software:
https://clover.moe/mm3d/
Supports a lot of the most used formats like OBJ, Milkshape, MD3, among others. Also, you can animate your models and the interface is pretty simple and straightforward to use.
I hope this helps anyone who wants to get started on the adventure of designing their own 3D game engine. I wish best of success.

>Only these, others are not me. I'm being honest.
I believe you because usually Lainchan memorizes the username given in a certain thread if you're not touching it by purpose. So the repeatance of "Milner" is either normal administration or the RNG of random names is fuarked or someone loves to play the shapeshifter. Considering the third case is unprobable, I talk ignoring such option
>sorry for being such an assh*le
I acted as one myself, I'm in no position to receive an excuse from others
>If we were in real life, I would seriously allow you to punch me in whatever site you may see fit (even my balls)
No need to that either. The only irrational behavior I reach is starting to talk in high volume and shout insults, but nothing else really I hate to hurt people I would feel miserable and wrong myself
>I ended up becoming the thing I hate most: an aggressive random loser on the web
Aren't we all like that, at the end of the day? I prefer this way rather than having life regrets like cheating on others or spending years of my life in a career I secretely despise. I prefer live eternally as a chuuni loser than being a competitive shark in the market economy
>I implore you: don't give up. The world needs creative minds now more than ever.
Thank you, but the world needs most of all people who carry on with the knowledge or we will end up in a new dark age with people reinventing the same thing but centuries later (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeolipile)
>Oh, one more thing... if by any chance you speak or understand Spanish, I recommend this channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ProfesorRetroman
I tried to watch a video but I know very little of spanish, so it would be useless. Sorry
>I wish you a wonderful 2026, and a wonderful life in general
I wish you too a happy 2026 lainon, even if world leaders really like to ruin hopes and dreams by killing random civilians on the planet and creating new random escalations based over mere economy competition. I fuarrrking despise living in this era. Another thing I really hate of this period is that in the past I started using Internet as a way to cope with my soykafty irl life of the time and try to find places that were comfy to me... and it was as such, I really felt better by using Internet and talking to anons all over the world to feel less miserable for being an autistic kiddo who avoids social life. Now my irl life somewhat slowly improved, even if I have my periodical time where I wish to just be a hikikomori and tell everyone else to go fuarrrk themself... but the Internet I knew literally died after covid. I'm still enraging for it and my poor performance here really shows how much I can be deeply stupid sometimes, most of all telling others that they don't have friends while myself I suffered for years the same situation of not having any kind of friendship irl... really, just the usual "miserable person who tells to other people how much they're miserable" as if we're not yet done of telling ourself how much being normal is a duty, as if it's not just suffering. I started this thread and continued in a passiveaggressive attitude, and that >"you need others to solve your problems and you get angry and defensive when someone tells you to be more proactive" really got me I must say. I repeat: the Internet I knew is gone, the few places I called home are now just memories and this place too I remember it to be very differently, even if it's absurd that I'm nostalgic about it as a not proper programmer... I swear, I talked here about anime, life, Internet and cybersec, but most of all I lurked to see others talking between each other, and I don't know why but while in the past lurking was for me an active act where I felt continuous "humanity" and genuine interest, now lurking in general just kills me because I see continuous patterns, continuous trends, continuous posers and fake soykafty people worse than me or you. I literally lurk on Discord too to see if I can come out from the shell, and each time I say something I genuine want to talk or I think of I either receive people who spit all the anger of the world against me, or either those who block/ignore me to avoid any conflict even before I somewhat start to know them... wonder how, all attitudes I saw irl too. Also add the fact that maybe some people are just bots, that most of the views come from AI databases that need material to be trained so they choose our memories and feelings so that the AI assistants can appear more "lovable" and "genuine" for random normal people... I have no more silly little places where to stay. Now it's like that the walls of the abandoned camper I escaped into are inexistent and all that remained is a cardboard box
tl;dr no need to hit your balls
