I've been working on an utility that allows searching locally stored images based on booru tags. I've tried Hydrus and disliked it. What I'm going for is recreating the ux of an online booru. You just have to point it to a directory, and Kaimen will start indexing it.
Queries create virtual files in a Fuse file system. WinFSP allows this to work on Windows, and macFUSE could theoretically make it work on Macs, so it's cross-platform. The backend is written in Go, frontend in Flutter.

Any file type works with it. There just needs to be a booru to supply the tags.

so it's like a booru server, but with native desktop app frontend instead of web page or what? didn't quite get it from your description

Yes. It's not a server though since it can't be used over a network(though maybe it could be extended to do that with samba or something). Instead, it's basically a scraper.
