i seriously don't know how the FUARK people understand math so easily. the most complicated stuff i can do is basic math in my head. every once in a while ill go on khan academy or someplace and try something like high school algebra, and then i'll become dumbfounded the moment i see a graph, or an equation with more than one variable. i try to understand it with examples and demonstrations out the wazoo and every time it stumps me hard enough to produce a headache. at this point anything more complicated than long division looks like actual fuarrrking magic to me. the whole thing is very disheartening.
i'm curious about what you lainons may have for people like myself, ways that such a mental block can be overcome. if you had a similar problem before, how did you break through? is there any literature that might be applicable? tools, websites, strats, anything? how did you do it lainon?

There are no shortcuts. It's like working out. You go through the chapter, do the problems, and look up the solutions and repeat with as many problems as possible. But just like working out you need discipline which is where people fall short. Most people who have average intelligence can learn 99% of math doing it this way, they just don't because that is not how they want to spend their time. Textbooks are by far the best for this as classes and teachers dumb down the information and by doing so, actually make it harder to understand the information. Things only start getting hard when you have to visualize impossible things in order to solve the problem and textbooks can only tell you so much.

Lol, you know nothing of hell.

man, if you can do long division, you can do anything in high-school algebra. i'd rather do algebra all day long than long division for an hour. you just have to figure out the really simple things that are going on behind all the scary-looking notation and graphs. if you understand arithmetic, then you understand everything you need to know to do algebra.

Ain't that the truth.
But as mentioned above, there are no shortcuts. If you look at the simple stuff on Khan Academy and get overwhelmed, then it sounds like you need to start working through those problems and listening to the videos and instruction they provide.

I hate the khan academy exercises
I love basic mathematics. it's the starting strength of math

your foundations are weak neonate. study the methods on how to solve problems and then solve problems that require those methods. start from arithmetic and work your way up. start with quick arithmetic or all the math youll ever need books
