I found this book in a library. It seems it's from 1994 and uses PHIGS instead of (obviously) OpenGL or Vulkan(haha). Is it a good idea reading it? Is there any info here that worth? At least the most math based stuff? I'm new to computer graphics and i wanna extend my knownledge(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

I don't know this book so I can't really say that it's bad but generally, avoid old material for this kind of fields that move pretty quickly. In 1994, hardware acceleration didn't "really" exist or at least it was very different and software rendering, while interesting to learn about, is not relevant anymore and you shouldn't spend too much learning about it. I really doubt this book could be useful. If you want to learn the math of computer graphics, read Eric Lengyel's books like "Foundations of Game Engine Development: Mathematics" or maybe his older but still good "Mathematics for 3D Game Programming and Computer Graphics".

basics always come first if you want to stay productive but these old books are always worth reading just to satisfy your curiosity :o

>(obviously) OpenGL OpenGL is crufty, but not as much as PHIGS. If you're learning for realtime, try webgpu, it's modern and crossplatform. Books to read, Physically Based Rendering for offline, realtime rendering for interactive soykaf. Also see >>38296
