Project: Decentralized Platform

Sr. J · 2024-10-23 16:49
Hi, I'm writing this to share an idea I'm working on. Due to increasing censorship, control and manipulation on networks, and anticipating that these measures will intensify over time, I have begun developing a website focused on decentralization. The goal is to offer a simple and accessible platform for everyone, using blockchain technology (Web 3), but with the minimalism of traditional forums to simplify its use. This project will be divided into several stages: Stage 1: Centralization. In this phase, I will establish the foundation of the site using conventional Web 2 technologies. Stage 2: Semi-decentralization. At this stage, I will begin to implement more blockchain technology, laying the foundation for future decentralization, provided the project receives the necessary support up to this point. Stage 3: Decentralization. In this final phase, the goal of creating a site where neither governments nor other entities can exercise control will be achieved. I will be attentive to comments and will respond to any questions related to the development of the site. Sincerely, Mr. J.

Okay, but what is the platform shaped like? What does it look like from a user perspective? You're giving me a lot of hows but very few whats.

I was browsing sites on the webring the other day and found this very related project to what you're describing: https://hashchan.network/ As far as I can tell it has already achieved Stage 3; you can post some text or information, and people will be able to see it if they want, and governments can't remove it. Of course there's a lot more that could be done. I think this is a really cool idea in general, good luck with your efforts

>>40247 >https://hashchan.network/ Requires javascript. I'll pass, thanks.

>>40251 I'm not sure if this is your issue with it, but the normal criticism of javascript in the context of censorship resistant communication is that it makes it more difficult to avoid fingerprinting. In this case though, the alternative of html content delivered straight from the host makes no sense because that would automatically fail the decentralization test. With this style of static site, the problem of needing to trust the webhost more is easily resolved by the option of downloading the whole site from github and running it locally as a client application, and the use of javascript and the content itself being on a blockchain is why that is possible. This is a common pattern for good faith web3 applications and to me seems to be the ideal way to do it; you get the advantage of accessibility for users who are willing to trust, and a more trustless option for those who aren't, without extra development work required. There's also the option of writing a client in a different language and not involving a web browser.

*spits soy latte* Wow, I wonder why no one succeeded at this. Can I buy your dApp coin too now? IPFS can't host dynamic conent, nor run simple backend engines processes like wordpress+mysql in decentralized manner across ipfs nodes.
