Wired Genesis - An esoteric P2P Chatroom & Library
eclipse · 2024-07-16 14:25
--- UPDATED Wired Genesis thread ---
For those who remember my previous thread, I proposed a lain-themed FOSS P2P software with library implementation where documents can be shared as research material and where users can share knowledge bases (akin to LogSeq). Discussions mainly pertain to cyberpunk media and cyber-esotericism.
if anyone wants to see my responses to the questionnaire and what features I will consider, here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1G79hyRHvFT4oEHg8gOM4d9kW41l8mWHOUzh4WZHyUN4/
Proposed UI design as well:

FAQ: "When is repo coming up?"
I have started coding it, however, I've had to stop at some point due to exam period, but I've recently gotten back on track as that's over with now.
I am not planning to upload a repo of it to Github just yet; it will be publicized once I believe it's functional enough to be classified as a prototype, aka once I'm done implementing the chatroom and library.
For additional contact and queries, or if you want to share more insights into the project, contact me on discord. My username is tsukiscape. It'd be much more convenient in case you wanna see how software progress is going, since it's easier to communicate there.
More updates on an upcoming thread.

Sent out the documentation twice accidentally. The proposed UI design is here:

>uses all proprietary software for info
Not looking good.

Is there any other way to contact you or view your plans for the project without using proprietary software? When you publish the source I'd also suggest putting it somewhere else like codeberg, sourcehut, or https://git.lain.faith/

Unfortunately it wasn't my choice, this is a college computer science project where we are supposed to develop a software, and I was required to use google document and slides since we use google emails for classrooms and file sharing.
If I had a choice I probably wouldn't even be using google services lmao

I've used cinny as a matter of fact which is essentially a FOSS alternative to discord, it is apart of the matrix messaging protocol. Username there is mysticeclipse:matrix.org

Reading your documentation it seems like a cool project and you've put a work into having a clear vision!
To make it more accessible to lains, even uf you can't get it completely off google docs, you could mirror it (as a pdf or doc) on GitHub, even before you have the prototype established. Would be interested in giving some energy to this project for sure tho.!

That's fine. I just meant you should have alternatives available for people who hate going on Google Docs because well it's Google (i would check but on my browser it doesnt load properly) and many dont use Discord since it is the fishiest chat program around with it's AI image and text scanning and file hash checking and automatic bans for the most stupid things and so on.

The project sounds genuinely interesting, but how about discussing it on Zeronet for bonus FOSStyle points?

just as i mentioned on you-know-where, imo this need a massive rebranding once the school presentation is done, my dude..

Blockchains are what is holding back decentralized hosting. They slow things down and reduce efficiency as well as increase costs of running from increase in electricity use. You can have decentralization without it.

THANK YOU FOR EXISTING. So few people understand that blockchains are for storing data in a decentralized manner. Trying to run entire apps or host files on a blockchain is just about one of the stupidest things you can do

p2p needs a bootstrap of many nodes before its functional. how are you going to get users?

blockchain is for verification against tampering.
Its for important documents that might face attacks not sharing memes.

Blockchains are just one way of doing things like that. Even similar systems can vary in method.

you are completely right, however as >>39624 explains, its not used for anything money related, its just how the pseudo-random IDs are generated.

hashgraph "voting online" always results in botted winner. How are they solving it? Dag is plain confusing, first line says previous validates succeeding, 3 boxes down its "validates 2 previous one" , last one says everyone is his own thing but not how they connect. The maker probably knows but the infographic is telling nothing to potential clueless viewer.

Unfortunately it was only quick comparison I could find at the moment and this was first place I saw mention Holochain so I know little of it. That same source is very vague.
https://101blockchains.com/holochain-blockchain-guide/
From what i read elsewhere DAG is faster and more energy efficient than blockchains, Im unsure if it is any more secure though but being more scalable it likely means they can be. Im seeing some sources suggest Hashgraph is more secure than blockchain but also slower.
