Scuttlebutt

Did you heard about Scuttlebutt - an open source peer-to-peer log store used as a database, identity provider, and messaging system? - https://staltz.com/an-off-grid-social-network.html - http://www.gwenbell.com/dt-interview/ - https://github.com/ssbc/secure-scuttlebutt - https://github.com/ssbc/patchwork It was apparently built by two programmers, so they can asynchronously communicate with each other, even when they are offline for weeks. I have been experimenting with it a little bit lately and it looks interesting. It may be interesting platform to build decentralized apps. Also the Patchwork („social network“) built on to of it looks promising. Come to see me at #lainchan.

It doesn't really look that useful in any country that doesn't have very heavy censorship in place, because GNUSocial works just as well but actually has users and nodes. In countries with heavy censorship and tyrannical governments, it would be worthless as well because the system doesn't have any form of plausible deniability and therefore everything you say could be used as proof against you.

>>361 looks interesting, but >node + electron horrible, why do so many idiots use this soykaf

>>466 Unfortunately Electron is simply the best GUI toolkit around these days. It is: - available for al major OS - fully customizable - not subject to platform-dependent UI changes, your UI will look exactly the same on all platforms As much as I hate Electron itself, I think it's a good way to create GUI toolkits and I believe new toolkits (which I hope somebody is developing, as a response to Electron) have to learn from it.

>>471 QT works well tbh, even works on mobile

>>472 AFAIK it is not as customizable as what you can do with Electron. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
