women who code: a confessional
Junichi Fujiwara · 2023-09-13 18:21
as a a woman the whole “woman in stem thing” has made me dejected and not want to pursue anything having to do with the computer.
I have been called a mac user on more than one occasion. sorry. it’s a habit.
how can I get into programming.
there’s all of these german vegans I know who use linux and I think they’re the pinnacle of male sexuality and human knowledge.
had to put an image so here’s an image of my ebay wishlist. please write in(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

YouTube, go to college, go to a bootcamp, buy a course on udemy or such, ask some friends

Or pic related
Programming is fun and pays well, I recommend you to pursue this

I know this is a bait post, but I taught myself C++ dealing with the above. It is so tiresome seeing people doing this. Just search it. "learn [language]". Do it. What is wrong with you. I did it. Just do it. Always makes me think what if I could go back as a me that had it 100x easier.
There's a free book that goes into the instruction cache, cache lins, locality, data structures, even down to the memory controller RAS and CAS signals and how volatile memory works, It was among the first things I read and I wish I could remember what it was to recommend it. Otherwise just search for a tutorial. Most will be garbage. Learn bitwise manipulation and data structures and how they actually function and are laid out in memory first. Don't use an abstract machine like Java. Find a reference manual for your language, like cppreference. I didn't personally find Bjarne's book all that helpful, I mainly tried to extend existing codebases and figure out what it was doing.

you might just be more intelligent than a normal person, and perhaps your ailments left you with little else to escape other than to immerse yourself in programming, a normal person doesn't have that motivation

lmao what kinda reply is that
"how do i learn this"
_"this is how"
"nah that's for space marines sorry"
to learn things you have to spend the time to learn, if you don't have the motivation or interest, maybe go learn something else that you are actually interested in.

Good starting points.
If OP wants books, she can look on Anna's Archive for programming books for free. Some of these books should give you a nice roadmap to follow with examples and exercises to practice.

It's a comfortable GUI that you're familiar with. If you want to do something unfamiliar, like learning program, it's not going to be comfortable and streamlined with rounded edges so you don't hurt yourself.

> “woman in stem thing”
Dunno what that's about, I go to a uni and there are plenty of women there.
If you want to learn something don't let idiots gatekeep you.
> I have been called a mac user
Easy fix, just use linux

> Don't use an abstract machine like Java
I'd recommend you use whatever is suitable for the job and you have experience with,
though with that in mind people starting out should learn something like C first, since
it's kinda low-level, meaning not too far away from what the computer actually does.
That kind of knowledge is important.

>people starting out should learn something like C first
Yep. This is what I started out with during my time learning CS in college. And you learn stuff that you don't have to think twice about while using more modern langs like Java. (Stuff like memory management for example)

There is something to that (quite a lot actually), but it's very nuanced. I don't really care to recount it in depth. You need to find or create some basis within you and draw from it in order to sustain focus and an overarching sense of direction. The rest will weave itself together on its own.
