So is there a faster way to browse images on your PC? Dolphin is definitely way slower. Specialized tag based software has benefit of operating on tags, but I migrated my galleries partially to format where my images have all the tags in filename which means I can fuzzy match them using fzf. Beat me.
PS: in case its not obvious yazi has native fzf and zoxide integrations and nsxiv plugin which means it's possible to navigate and filter using fzf and zoxide, then press a key you set up to open those images in nsxiv, then mark images you want there and get back with that selection to yazi

Browsing images? Just open up thunar and stare at thumbnails. It can't get faster than that unless you start tagging pictures and make a special file manager for it.

It definitely can, in this case because of zoxide and fzf. The thing that gets optimized real hard here is navigating into or between image directories. Filtering too because fzf is more powerful than what you get in Dolphin or Thunar, but that's not as commonly used as navigating. If you never used zoxide, read about it. With yazi it's particularly cool because you get all three immediately available at your fingertips (the third one is nsxiv).

I personally use small local model to do that (into the filename), but that's not the point of the thread. That's fzf part which is a secondary dish. Main dish in this workflow is having both zoxide and nsxiv immediately available. Doing this in Dolphin (which is the best actual GUI file manager) is like kicking dead whales down the beach because of the need to click between all the folders and using your eyes to visually scroll through the list of subfolders within the Pictures folder to find the one you need to doubleclick again. What zoxide does is unbeatable compared to this and no amount of bookmarks will solve this, because if you add every Pictures subfolder to bookmarks, now you have to visually scroll though all those bookmarks to find the one to click at. That just is like kicking dead whales down the beach by design.
