Accelerationism is a theory that posits the best way to confront the current moment of history is to blast through it. As much a theory of political action as a theory of worldly engagement, it positions itself as simultaneous teleology (as an attractor mode, not as an outright theory), and means of obtaining a new earthly world. While it is often maligned as a dystopic feverdream from the mind of the likes of Land, it harkens back to observations as early as Marx if not earlier. The best way is through, and not to wait for an opportune moment. With tools like ai enabling faster development of tools such as cyber weapons, as well as more powerful conventional weapons, it offers a chance to straighten the imbalance of power and re-establish a symmetry to people that seemed all but lost. Equally so, it could cement a power so totalizing as to be impossible to topple once established. Accelerationism suggests the populous can have their own, and that there's not one single destination.

Southafrica was at the vangaurd of the liberal worldview, giving a modern, industrial and technological country over to rule by a particular class of being. The expectation was that naturally they would continue the country as a modern technological power etc etc and maybe spearhead the modernization and civilization of the continent.
In the 20th Century SA had nukes. They did the first heart transplants, they were actually very technologically advanced. Now they can hardly keep the power on, and seem to be quite a complete disaster. This isnt a deep discussion of the problems of South Africa, suffice it to say they are many and significant.
You may say that you hope embracing turbo liberalism, nay, gigaturboliberalism, to blast through this age of history will cause people to realize quickly that liberalism itself is stupid and perverse, but there are still White liberals in SA. Sure you have Orania etc, and the Southafricanization of the world may not be the end of civilization entierly, but I hardly think the accelerationist view seems to be well bourne out over there.

the problem with accelerationism (and teleology in general) is it sort of sneaks in this implication that one has a perfect understanding of everything that is happening right now and has prescient knowledge that it this is only a temporary bad period that will eventually get better.
it's basically like when compulsive gamblers hit a bad losing streak and go on tilt, something snaps in their brain and they just obstinately continue gambling and losing more and more money because they think that their situation is just a temporary phase of bad mojo that will eventually fix itself if they just keep powering through.
the irony of it is, it's a delusion of having control that is based on abdicating control - the bad situation you are in is not your own doing, it has nothing to do with your actions, it's just random bad luck, so you can "control" the situation by just mindlessly powering through and doing the same thing that you are doing and not allowing yourself to be deterred by your misfortunes.
but of course, this isn't control at all - this is just insanity, as famously defined by einstein as doing the same thing and expecting different results. everything we have been doing as a society has gotten us into the situation we are in right now and to think that continuing to do the same thing even harder will eventually yield good results is insanity, plain and simple.

Hammers also do not operate in a vacuum, but their are not ideologies and the generally do not inform and direct everyone's general worldview. Capitalism is to a large degree like a tool, its more of a mental tool than a hammer, but I'd argue it generally lacks some of the basic requirements for an independent ideology. A capigtalist is likely also a liberal or a nationalist or some other thing, and will attempt to use the means of capital to advance this other ideology.
Some people may be non ideological but most ime have some value judgements and even people in business are not just 100% in it for the money.

Capitalism isn't akin to a hammer either. Are you daft or something? You prattle on about liberalism, when that is definitively not the core of the issue (see: Saudi Arabia (a monarchy), China (state capitalist with public socialist offerings), etc). The constant is capital. It is it's own ideological force, it integrates & subverts whatever it needs, and it corrupts all systems. Could you kindly remove your head from your large intestine?

Hammers are also constant, and many people would say, their own ideological force; for when all you have is a hammer, then everything is a nail. They're ubiquitous, found everywhere from China to Saudi Arabia, from Sweden to Nigeria. They were even among the first tools sent to space, and doubtless many were carried on such ships as the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. Their usefulness is obvious, and if they hadn't already been invented a million times I rather think I would have needed to invent them myself.
It would be nonsense to accelerate hammers, because they have an obvious niche and don't need to expand beyond that niche. They represent a solved problem, and do not, generally, seek to expand beyond their scope.
Everyone uses hammers because it would be stupid not to, because they're tools, great and useful tools. And thus also with capitalism. Its merely because the niche of capitalism, that is the market, is quite large and pervasive that capitalism is so large and pervasive.
But for the most part I do not see capitalism invading home and family life, maybe thats just me and where I live, I do not see it expanding beyond its scope, and to be fair its a large scope, if everyone spends 1/3 of their time, generally engaged in market pursuits then capitalism is naturally as large as hammers would be if everyone spent 1/3 of their time hammering nails.
Ideology pervades into every sphere because it has something to say about everything, or at any rate it can. A hammer, and capital likewise, generally cannot.

there's hardly just one global constant. The global constant might as well be the western business suit, the language english. Even more basic, the global constant is the house, the road or trail. Written or spoken language is also a global constant.
You say capitalism is power, power is something obviously non ideological because it can be wielded by people of any ideology. You can make an ideology around it where you say 'all that matters is capital' just as you can say 'all that matters is the hammer', both of which are equally absurd ideologies which do not reflect the average user, either of capital or of the hammer.

Accelerationism is a beast with two heads: on the one hand you have the billionaire class, who seem to genuinely believe that they are bringing about some kind of singularity where they will be as gods. Then you have the version that is peddled to the masses, which is an equally delusional belief that if you help them destroy society, it will come back just how you like it.
Both of them amount to a self-fulfilling doomsday cult that will take everyone down with them. Accelerationists deserve to be sent to reeducation camps.

wow, what an interesting point. I wonder if the accelerationists around here have anything to say. I guess they do: "I want it to all collapse. The question is when and how :)" [1]. Sounds like he agrees, maybe there's less than a whole book to read to comprehend this ideology.
Still I would be interested in worldly examples but this is a reasonable logical assertion. Obviously you can make the arguemnt that society has collapsed half a dozen times before and its never been the end of society (though the anthropic principal would argue that thats obvious if we're remarking on it). I think often its hard to actually get a total collapse, people will generally survive and everyone carries in him enough trappings of society to start over if he gets some friends.
For what its worth I've met some self identified accelerationists who make the case that society is collapsing, and that in the long run its better to have a fast collapse, as this will enable quicker rebuilding. Hence the point of S.A., which has had a fairly quick collapse and has not really stopped collapsing or turned around at all yet, afaict.

Comparisons between the modern day and the accelerationism of 19th century socialist autonomists and 20th century cyberneticism seem misaimed.
The Marxists were witnessing the disruptive processes of capital permanently ending the peasantry. The peasantry was uninterested in the permanent termination of the social system of peasantry, and Marx dropped the black pill that there is nothing, absolutely nothing that can arrest the total and permanent end of peasantry and total revocation of traditional peasant rights and privileges. Since he lived in a dying semifeudal state complete with limited peasantry as a social institution, in a society generally well acquainted with the social institutions of Old Russia, he did not even need to name those privileges. But I will name a few right now: severe restrictions on military levy, an absolute legal protection against eviction (which legality was considered the hard line between peasantry and slavery), and the legal protection of the tools and means by which the peasant performs labor--similar to the modern legal protection of one's car in the state of bankruptcy, a limiting legal surety that a peasant would first need to be stripped of his status as peasant and be formally declared an outlaw before he could be removed from economic life. And we all know what happened over the course of the Inclosures in Britain. All of these were utterly incompatible with the industrial state. The peasantry's protection against levy was the first right abolished by the French Republic, before they abolished any of the privileges of the aristocracy or clergy. A crowned king was more compatible with the social revolution of the Republican State than a peasant of limited levy. Napoleon proved as much.
We are not in an age where formal written rights and privileges of the masses stand in the way of the advancement of technology. I know some of you will say "right to privacy" but there is no such right in the American legal system. The sole and exclusive court case in which such a right was interpreted into existence, "Roe V. Wade," was overturned on the spurious nature of that interpretation. Nor does there exist a "right to repair." It is in fact the manufacturers and IP owners who have the applicable rights. Nor is there anywhere a "right to read." The only entities to ever formally win a right to read have been corporations feeding copyrighted work to machines, which right they have won in court explicitly on the basis of the fact that said machine learning activities cannot be likened to reading. Aaron Swartz hanged himself because he intended to include human readership. You do not have a right to do any and every arbitrary transformation of mathematics. We have a system of IP law and patent guarantees specifically to prevent you from doing that, and fortunately for the process of systemic compounding, said IP laws and patents are in practice at most minimally frictional to the accumulation of power.
The destructive liberation of industrial development therefore has little parallel in the modern environment. The peasantry was dissolved into the citizenry by the interests of the bourgeoisie. The citizenry of the 20th century has already been dissolved into the netizenry of the 21st. What remains is, it seems, simply for the netizenry to be harvested, and then rendered socially and economically abject. I believe I read once that DeviantArt derezzed a particularly skilled vore fetish artist named Karbo only and immediately after they finished feeding their infernal generative devices all of his vore fetish art, almost as though that had been a plan decades in the making. That story is almost certainly false, but the fact that it is a story at all captures a fairly normal perspective for the netizen. Just as the citizen knows he forsook the shackles of peasantry for the responsibility of civil duty including military service, the netizen knows himself to have centuries ago forsaken the rights and protections of peasantry, as Esau traded his birthright for thick red porridge.
Nobody special · 2026-06-23 05:33
my favorite part of the "acceleration" is when, after the collapse of the ai bubble and the economic catastrophe that ensues, all the big tech ceos grab all the money they can carry and flee into the global south like nazi fugitives and then they try to build their own little neofeudal kingdoms there and they eventually get dragged out of their compounds by hordes of enraged natives and they are hacked to death with rusty machetes while uselessly pleading for mercy in a language no one understands.
