I used to use Firefox as my browser, and the translation feature worked very well, but now that I’ve switched to Helium Browser, unfortunately it doesn’t have the built-in translation feature that Chrome and Firefox have. That’s why I need a translation tool for Russian, Turkish, and Japanese websites.
I usually use DeepL, but I’m not very satisfied with its Turkish translations.

If I am not using Firefox and just want a section at a time translates I use Mozhi instances and select ""all engines" select the language and compare what one works best for a language or topic. DuckDuckGo seemed to make the most natural sounding translations for Japanese to English. I never had to translate Turkish and I dont recall what is best for Russian.

Only very rarely I use DeepL, Google Translate and various online dictionaries. But it looks easy enough to use FF translator models standalone, if you're happy with them you should probably get a marion-decoder built and roll a browser extension to call it.
Obviously you can also make a shell script that takes a clipboard (xclip) and feeds it through translator so you can get to reading without bidi browser integration.

That's what he was doing, FF Automatic Translator is Marion is an offline LLM model (+ training infra you don't need to touch).

why isn't this on 4chan?

4chan blocks VPNs and Tor, and they won't let you buy a pass with monero. no point in even attempting to post there

slightly offttopic, but why isn't there a normally working translator app on F-Droid? It should use duck.ai as a service, i use it dialy and it translates very nicely, and there are no technical problems either. But the android apps i tried so far either simply don't work at all, like not reaching the service or other problems, or are soykafty as fuarrrk google-translate tier, giving me such mistranslations that i laugh my fuarrrking ass off. The problem is, if i don't speak the language at all, i won't notice such mistranslations so i don't dare to use them in such cases.

good question, I've been wondering that as well. I've had issues with the map apps as well, really annoying to have to install stuff from the google store whenever I travel outside the country

nowadays I just use some llm like gemma or qwen to translate my texts. it works perfectly fine and imo qwen performs surprisingly better at translating my native to english. you should use one of these models too since you can also prompt it to make the translation sound like something specific you might want
