I2P Torrenting and upcoming media codecs

Vasya Pupkin · 2026-02-23 10:29
As someone who doesn't really spend money on media or VPNs or a lot of stuff, I2P torrenting has been a massive step up from using streaming sites. Is this a something other people get a lot of use out of or is there another way to do stuff thats an even higher step up? Also have you guys seen the news about the upcoming (hopefully soon?) audio codec OAC and the video codec AV2? So far I've been getting pretty decent results out of AV1, mostly with anime though. av1/ opus encodes of ak-submarines rereleases and normal releases of girls und panzer stuff: das finale 1 minute recap: 02ca4f7c26f6891c899c923d7517ba9ce1dee8a4 das finale 1: B9F1B13289D3A53B305D3742B88B66D5FE9F9321 das finale 2: BD5126BC559A39ABBBD90E77AE5242A574045129 das finale 2 OVA: A53025949983A56F8C8D55542B9978B94BEB9648 das finale 3: 55E52FA599B23DED12CAA01A95721751FCE74CB2 das finale 3 OVA: 02C09C0B65EE96FA731E537295469D321CD7EB1A das finale 4 OVA: 558569211D30735151B7F90A73C0CF866E6B81E9 mllsd 1: 108C968E66FE4824704337633D0A8B97AB6A2D24 mllsd 2: 9eba2b4d5decf2e6bbcd5af1b58976d1b7614489 der film (and arisu war): B2D2DC218FC5095D4531C0DFEF9B08D0D5521170

Is this a something other people get a lot of use out I've been aware that i2p exists for some time, but that's the extent of it. I've never set up a node or explored the network. You've piqued my interest, though, I never knew you could use it for torrenting. Is there a fair bit of selection for content (movies, TV shows, books/comics, etc.) or is it more sparse? Also, it turns out that you can also use qBittorrent with i2p, which is interesting. > is there another way to do stuff thats an even higher step up? The only way I can think of is via another darknet, such as IPFS, ZeroNet, Veilid (anyone use that one?) et. al. Or via Titaxi, but it's closed source.

>>91170 >I never knew you could use it for torrenting. Is there a fair bit of selection for content (movies, TV shows, books/comics, etc.) or is it more sparse? For sure more sparse then clear web. notbob.i2p is gonna be your site that indexes most other sites, than the main ones for torrenting are http://tracker2.postman.i2p/ and also there's a site which can download nyaa torrents and then reseed them on i2p which has been pretty helpful to me. http://tracker.nyaa2p.i2p/ But the normal java i2p client has a torrent client built into it, you can use the qbittorrent or other stuff I've just never looked into getting one since it wasn't a high priority thing for me. >> is there another way to do stuff thats an even higher step up? Actually now that I think of it, at least for anime you can connect to animetoshos onionsite and then use their direct download links but those are only up for a little while and animetosho is gonna be gone soon anyways. If you do wanna check I2P out at some point and you have some computer set up as a "server" more people are always welcome. Only drawback is speed of course

>>91173 Thanks for the reply! When I first heard about i2p the guides usually showed using i2pd (the daemon written in C++) with some other browser. Good to know about the torrent trackers for i2p. > you can connect to animetoshos onionsite and then use their direct download links but those are only up for a little while That's neat, wasn't aware of that. > and animetosho is gonna be gone soon anyways. Oh, that's a shame. What's happening to them? They don't seem to have any news about going down on their site.

>>91182 >When I first heard about i2p the guides usually showed using i2pd Yeah that one seems more complicated so I never really messed with it. You do need your own browser still though and then you need to set its proxy through the i2p port. >They don't seem to have any news about going down on their site. http://rozvtgjhfwfrf4xbbhqevgwia6ut3twhcv3kxspqnklekojyoskcfryd.onion/about/shutdownhere ya go

>>91183 Small ish update: Tried i2p via the C++ daemon, seems my ISP/router *might* be blocking port forwarding. At least that's how I interpret the "firewalled" notice I keep getting on the main page. Alas, I currently live in university housing and don't have access to my router, just a cyberhumped web portal where I can add a MAC address for devices. I will try the Java bundle at some point and see if it's different there. I'll bookmark the sites you mentioned for torrents for later - my current setup works fine but I won't say no to another way to torrent. Thanks again for the links! > http://rozvtgjhfwfrf4xbbhqevgwia6ut3twhcv3kxspqnklekojyoskcfryd.onion/about/shutdownhere ya go Ah, that's a shame. I never used them but I can understand how they'd get burnt out after running the site for so long.

>>91236 cant say how i2pd works since i never really used it, for i2p java i did have issues with port forwarding since UPnP would work until it stopped and then say its firewalled. i havent really learned about upnp so idk i just forwarded the port on my router. can you torrent even without port forwarding?

small bump but new version of i2p java, 2.12.0 got released a while ago. looks like theres more support for PQC across applications/protocols being used by I2P, random networking changes to timeouts and connection stuff. i think the protocol improvements affect bittorrent so thats why im mentioning it. released on ubuntu/debian a little while back after april 20 2026

What are speeds like with i2p?
John Titor · 2026-05-01 06:32

has anyone checked out tribler? ive been seeing it mentioned a couple of times in this flamewar and got curious about it. https://boards.4chan.org/a/thread/287998400#p288022934 https://boards.4chan.org/a/thread/287998400#p288023307 https://boards.4chan.org/a/thread/287998400#p288027044 its looks like a new anonymous network which makes me somewhat nervous, its made by researchers at delft university to be anonymous which is nice to see, i just see so little discussion on it that it makes me nervous. also that theres only one client to connect, whereas i2p has java, i2pd, and emissary soon (rust) and tor has the main tor client and the upcoming rust client. also i havent tested it out yet but tritium looks like another fork of svt-av1 (although this time its a fork based on two very popular forks) https://reddit.com/comments/1syq4ds/comment/oixontd cheers! seems like av1 would match well with low bandwidth networks too which would be cool.

>>91173 i2p is slow indeed but i have learned to just deal with it and let it run on a nas or raspberry pi while i do other things and just take it easey

>>92024 speaking of i2p, nyaa2p came back as nyaaplus so if you like anime/japanese stuff theres anothe pretty decent searchable tracker now

>>91994 >tribler Never heard of it before, but it's not new, it was created in the 2006. Nonexistent adoption in all that time isn't a good sign. https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/tribler-onion-routed-bittorrent.html >There’s an elephant in the room, and it’s time to address it: Tribler’s bandwidth token system. You pay tokens to relay downloads through other users and you earn tokens by uploading to other Tribler users and by being an intermediary traffic relay for other users. It costs more tokens to relay through multiple relays, so a 1 GB download costs 3 GB through three relays. >Tribler down-prioritizes what it calls “selfish” clients; which it defines as clients with a negative 20 GB token balance. (You achieve this balance after downloading roughly 6,6 GB via three relays.) Most clients will use the default settings, so most users simply pay the exit relays without needing to route through any other relays. It’s nigh impossible to increase your token balance unless you’re an exit relay. I believe most people simply abandon the program at this point as it seemingly stops working. >The most common solution to a network routing problem is to select the shortest route. Tribler also prefers the shortest relay route as it can be assumed to be faster. Therefore, Tribler prefers downloading through an exit relay as it’s both faster and cheaper than downloading from other Tribler users over multiple relays.

is nyaa.si just bigger but kinda more dead than bakabt?
Nobody important · 2026-06-22 23:05
>>92677 Idk about dead, it's my only anime torrent site ever which I used 10 years ago just as I use today. Registrations are closed but there's torrents for basically every anime in existence. There's wasn't a single time I couldn't find an anime on nyaa, no matter how old and unpopular. And I mostly watch old and unpopular.
