Viture Luma Cyber

Just saw the Viture Luma Cyber (Cyberpunk Edition)
I always wanted such Glasses for notifications, navigating, having a HUD irl.
Idk what i should do, ~500€ is kinda a lot of money for some cool looking glasses that are basically just a monitor for your phone.
What do you think about it? I really love Cyberpunk and i miss such gadges really much since the "future" we have now is just getting soykaftier every year and no cool innovation is happening except this thing here.
Would you buy one? Do you think it is worth the money?

I have the XREAL version of these, they're okay, not sure if I would spend the several hundred dollars on them again though
Boris Grishenko · 2025-12-15 14:49
Stupid thread but if even if you don't end up using it it's a neat piece of Cyberpunk merch, if you have the money and you like it why not
XERXES · 2025-12-15 15:43
My concern with getting any such thing would be, even if you can set it up so it's all open source and the software runs totally locally either on the glasses themselves or on another device on your person, people around you don't necessarily know that you aren't effectively a mobile surveillance device for some company whose cloud servers the hardware relies on connecting to, which is the default, so your presence would be obtrusive.
Years ago when this stuff was first sort of becoming a thing I thought it was an overreaction that some people were getting angry at people wearing them, but at this point I kind of get it.

Ah that reminds me, Google Glass users were getting physically attacked as far as back in 2014. I think that was a perfectly justified response to an obviously dystopian device.
Though by some sheer miracle this technology could objectively be good if smart glasses come with watertight security, a fully free and modifiable software stack and no cameras at all, but I'm not holding my breath. Just look at the state of free software support on smartphones.

Cant believe that was 10 years ago already, strange how it all died down without a word.
I have vague memory of ar/vr glasses being advertised in the 90s with certain graphics cards, i wonder how that was and maybe where i can get one of those, i remember it looked similar to the one you posted.
Id love to get my hands one some decent ar glasses just to play with and for novelty value.

Open Source would be a top priority for me since i use GrapheneOS and Linux, no google etc. and it's crazy that so many people don't care about their privacy and have literally spying devices everywhere (xiaomi, alexa, samsung stuff etc.) and i think that people should rather watch out that they aren't filmed by someone being on a video call in public or surveillance cameras which are everywhere in big cities. Having XR Glasses would be my least concern even though I wouldn't stand out that much with that than a Google Glass or even a Microsoft Holo thing or whatever that was called.
I really wish those Cyberpunk glasses came with that 6DOF tracking for my hands but on the other side it would require some proprietary apps I guess.
I'm really unsure. I don't have so much money rn (moved recently) but it wouldn't be that much expensive for me since i have a job. Also i wanted to buy the Steam Frame when it comes out but ig it will be delayed due to memory shortage and i have a bit money left because i wanted to upgrade my PC but i'll wait for another year or 2 with that now that the memory crisis is here.

Wonder why Zuck's AR glasses aren't getting the same treatment. Maybe because they can pass for normal glasses?

In all reality all that's going to happen are that people now have the ability to stand outside of a primary school with local ai that declothes all of the children in live time and clones their voice and performs 3D IR scanning to generate a VR model of them.
There is a mass wave of government regulation and I'm actually all for it once it's fully implemented. It should be illegal to have VR/AR glasses without owning a license and government surveillance installed on the device.
Successfully reporting a user would result in $100-$5,000 depending on the severity and the punishment should tampering with the surveillance software should be 2 years in prison & permanent criminal record, AI misuse registry permanent member etc etc

>without owning a license and government surveillance installed on the device.
UK has legistlation proposals for this actually. The british police doesn't let me look at this website with Tor (very surprising) so I can't quote them exactly but they are on a fast track to become another North Korea by 2028 to protect children from predators (the government from dangerous political speech).
You might think that I'm joking or exaggerating, but I'm not.

being from the U.S. the UK has always kinda struck me as a highly civilized place...don't they have a constitution there and that sort of thing to prevent dystopia?

i think those glasses suck...it sux already that i walk around with a ringing smart phone every where i go and get harassed by techbros all day long
wouldn't waste my money on something aesthetic like that unless i had a really good reason or was going to put it to good use or use it for the sake of research

A "highly civilized" place where they turned a blind eye to pakistani rape gangs until a "far right extremist" drew too much attention to it.

Same in France. We have thousands of child prostitutes, mostly forced into that, since the law don't apply to them they are the prime recruitment material of the narcos and retire at 18. We had a 14 year old hitmen who killed a 16 year old dealer. And they are not shy on the consumption either.
Because of all the climate laws, many kids grow in homes that are not heated anymore and because the public money just goes missing, hospitals can't heal them if they get sick.
Our first lady is a pedo as well as many important figures, who all are protected, but guys, we simply need to force real ID on the internet to protect kids form porn.
Would somebody please think of the children?
We must guillotine every single one of them.

Yeah, it would be like a former prison island where when a muslim kill people, they hunt the far right and will solve the problem with more islam. Crazy how every single country in the west make the exact smae mistake in the exact same way.

Because we know police worry about being called racist, lmao. The reason the police didn't do soykaf is because they were in on it, getting kickbacks. Then suckers like you provide the perfect smokescreen of "police were too woke"

Ironically there was a study done ran by the government that proved the issues in the UK relating to sex are due to things like poor sexual education and condom access not directly age exposed to sexual things.

Are we not going to talk about the cars having all the sensors and cameras to do that too? Also there should not be government spyware anywhere. I looked into some other smart glasses that look normal (those with that green monochrome screen) but all of those have apps that aren't open source and probably communicating with some servers, probably tracking you and selling your data which is a no-go.
Do you also want to jail people who have a photographic mind that can recreate people in blender themselves? And some would ban social media for childs because they are uploading dances of themselves and some AI could probably do a model of them too.
Your idea just would harm nerds that like those glasses for convenience and not staring down on the screens all the time for some unneccessary notification since they would be tracked by their every move in their most private moments while real predators come up with other solutions to do their nasty stuff.

No 6DOF as far as I'm aware.
Sadly not programmable to make fancy things with.
Overly expensive compared to XReal ones

in terms of display these are pretty underwhelming, IMO the tech just isn't quite there yet
they advertise as being like a 200" screen, but as seen from 20 feet away
recently bought the rayneo air 4 pro and really it feels more like a 27" monitor from about 3 feet (which to my dogshit eyes is pretty small)
way better than a steam deck's tiny 7", but the fact that it's locked in place, the edges are blurry and cut off at the corners slightly (I get the sense it was specifically designed for chinese faces, their eyes are usually set a bit further forward in the skull), and a set of inserts is an additional $125 makes it kinda meh
I keep finding myself leaning forwards to try and read something only for the screen to move with me, it takes a lot of getting used to (easily solved by native 6DOF admittedly, these just don't have that)
I will say they're great for travel at least, definitely better on a plane to be able to have a small laptop hooked up to these things without craning my neck to look down at it for 5 hours
I don't ever use them at home though, they're a long way from replacing a real monitor
I think once waveguide displays get a little cheaper and more mature this sort of thing will start to get a lot more interesting
