The normal person majority did it again. Forces all communication through the Office365 account, OAuth so 'mackenzie#249' password doesn't cause hack. "We support email clients!! You can also access your emails through Outlook for Desktop and iOS :D" They can't keep getting away with this.

Aren't all email systems use the same SMTP or IMAP or whatever that's called? Which means it should probably be possible to use any email client working with general mail protocols?
Maxwell Edison · 2025-12-10 06:57
>>90123 OAuth forced. API requires a client ID. fuarrrkers wont create one. Thunderbird ID not manually whitelisted, just works through some default setting for the tenant. My full system is configured for NeoMutt.

>>90122 >>90124 >>90123 Forgot to mention. NeoMutt doesn't handle OAuth natively. So it doesn't have an Application ID for them to whitelist. They have to create one in the azure portal, which they can do, just won't. Full system grinding to a halt.

>>90122 This has been a problem for years, lainon. I have had some serious fights with my university, before i graduated. >>90124 >My full system is configured for NeoMutt same.

>>90122 >OAuth so 'mackenzie#249' password doesn't cause hack. It's amazing how whatever you do these people find a way to fuarrrk it all up. Even if you make yubikeys mandatory someone will drop their key on pavement and waste dozens of people's time in IT department at least once a week. >>90126 Same. I eventually started using two laptops, one for university and one for personal stuff so I didn't have to care.

>>90127 I honestly just dual booted. It was the exact same box, cloned my gentoo install, and just hit "edu-gentoo" when I needed to do any garbage so my main install wasn't bloated to hell and back.

M$ is definitely bribing it deptartments because their software is the worst i have ever experienced. except for Oracle

I switched to evolution a long time ago for email. A had to enable a setting in O365 to allow it to authenticate perks of being an admin but otherwise I don't have any issues with it.

>>90131 Pretty much every university bows down to microsoft and signs a contract with them. It’s a shame these universities can’t build their own digital tech infrastructure.
Incognito · 2025-12-11 11:18
>>90133 They can, they def have the skill and hardware access, but they’ve long passed the ideological knowledge for knowledge sake era
Frank Garza · 2025-12-11 11:23
>>90135 >they def have the skill I've worked IT at several Universities at all levels, and I can tell you for sure that no they do not. Most of the people who work there only know how to use Windows/Office, to migrate to something else would require large scale training.
Maxwell Edison · 2025-12-12 03:38
>>90126 Do I have extra ammunition for a fight however, they clearly say 'any other email client' on their website.
