When will network television die? · 2025-11-25 07:55
Everytime I go to a waiting room and am subjected to the background noise of daytime TV, I'm baffled by how insipid and obnoxious every second of it is. Who is this for? Why do they still bother? Even the old people in these waiting rooms just look at their phone. Silence, or some nice music, would be infinitely preferable. Are there seriously still people who sit down and watch this commercial laced junk, as an activity in itself? Even in terms of harmful material, it's not as addictive as TikTok or whatever. When will it just go away forever?

>>89840 It's to create a fake perception of reality and "normality". The news is fundamentally advertisement, its presence is paid for.

I always assumed it was for empty, hollow, nothing-to-do house wives to have noise in the background while they're alone to keep from going insane. The offices use it to make their rooms seem less depressing. Enclosed spaces with little to no light.

>>89840 > I'm baffled by how insipid and obnoxious every second of it is. > Who is this for? Why do they still bother? Old people. Old habits die hard, after all. So long as someone funds it and someone consumes it and it justifies enough value, it will continue to exist. > Silence, or some nice music, would be infinitely preferable. Universal remotes exist for a reason. > When will it just go away forever? Take heart, network television is largely a symptom of older generations. As time goes on and fewer people consume network television, it too will quietly fade away.

Grew up with a TV as a surrogate parent. Went into meat space today and saw physical paper ads for some show and what time it was airing on. Was surprised that this is still profitable when you can watch pretty much what you want when you want at this point. Luckily I have not experience that waiting room situation myself because maybe the culture here is fine with finding solstice in silence while waiting on their turn, at least the natives are. Or we just don't have CNN having a contract with clinics, airports, gyms, schools here and pretty much any other place they can pester the public with their attempts at refined brainwashing and to air their retardation and fear porn 24/7. This would drive me insane, no wonder so many on social media already are. But here's an idea for an experiment. Next time just stand up and turn it off. Not even an uni remote hidden in your pocket or change the channel, but an active display of rejection.
