Radio Internet

Is long-wave radio internet feasible? I'm thinking about getting a ham radio setup going. the major issue is the lack of encryption of course and (((they))) really don't want you running an ISP free internet anyways. anyone tried this before?

Long waves have very limited bandwidth, the setup is expensive, and the antennas are large. Meshtastic is perhaps something you can look into, but it has its limits.

Here are my thoughts on the matter. >set up local meshnets for your friends >use shortwave radio to ask if anyone has a file >exchange addresses >use the fuarrrking mail to exchange pgp keys >verify the keys over shortwave >get mailed a microsd card with your requested file >provide it to the local meshnet >mail the microsd card back because you're not an asshole

>>87990 Also you could create a star network. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_network >designate one person to be the hub >have meshnet controllers contact the hub over shortwave to register by exchanging addresses and pgp keys >each host sends the hub an update at a set interval by mail >the hub synchronizes the updates into one large update to be sent back to the hosts >this could allow intermeshnet imageboard brewing soykaf

>>87960 Read about packet radio. you could use it for simple text files but not music. your best bet is to run a pirate radio station that broadcast SSB or FM (of course check local law because it's illegal). Read about SSTV, too.

I'm fuarking illiterate in this space but my experience thus far is that long-wave radio internet is infeasible for most (including me) due to the knowledge and licensing required. You can however do much good for yourself by starting with GMRS local voice comms, moving to meshtastic for meshnet. Those two should provide for most of your needs and buy time and experience with radio tech. If you hunger for more they are an excellent launch point into ham radio.

>>87960 you could totally setup something by setting up a ppp server and getting some cheap radios like the e62-433t30d, youd get 3km LOS range @64kbps or shorter range @128kbps.

>>88068 If that 64 kbps figure is accurate, it's a little better than the old dial-up speeds for BBSs back in the 1980s. They were massively popular for what would now be called forums, and for very small file transfers. There were even networks of them like FIDOnet, so you could communicate world-wide, though not in real time. The advantage with radio is that it's not dependent on third-party infrastructure like telephone lines.
