how to churn out every last nanosecond of efficiency in homosexual firefox and its forks? (and i mean nanosecond, because you could put 100000 hours into improving firefox and it will still not gain a second of efficiency)
>inb4 use a plugin

==disable popups== (the option in settings doesnt actually do anything)
>set dom.popup_allowed_events to empty string to disable popups (there is literally no other way)
>about:config

>enter
==toggle js== (without installing noscript like an oblivious script kiddie)
>set about:config to homepage
><ctrl+n><pt.e> <enter> to toggle JS (you should be using one browser per website anyway [use profiles / VMs etc])
scroll in both dimensions

disable smooth scrolling

took 30 years to figure this one out. got any more good ones?

i hate to iunform you buzt you could go inside of the program itslèf and delete everything which is not essential to the programs function
also delete the update checker and some other firefox associated programs in the installation folder because theyre not important its also malware and the firefox still checks for updates without it

Firefox uses a lot of different file and database formats due to years of development and changing fads, a performant NVMe drive helps it access them faster. Firefox also takes advantage of systems with more threads available, and won't choke up or crash if you have lots of RAM (32GB minimum, but honestly 64GB+ these days is starting to be the minimum for a workstation). Faster RAM only helps much if you have an iGPU or put the entire mozilla profile in memory. On Linux, having a swap device helps the kernel page stuff out more, you can get one without using disk space by trading a bit of CPU time in exchange for a compressed cache, read up on zram to see how to enable it.
You can reduce swappiness on Linux if your drive is slow, you can reduce the amount of disk access inside Firefox's settings by shutting down the disk cache and fiddling with other settings to make up for a slow drive, you can enable a better algorithm for disk access from a user latency perspective on Linux, you can run the entire mozilla profile in RAM like I mentioned before (you need to back up everything first). But really Firefox wants a computer with fast disk access (or fast in memory file access), quad core minimum, and lots of RAM, you can't really get around it. If you're too poor and it still runs slow? Well too bad, the developers are telling you to fuarrrk off and vacate the premises before they start shooting, so you're stuck with using ELinks or something else like it. Not really a better situation on desktop Chromium either (all real competitors are essentially Chromium or KHTML descended), the web standards pretty much dictate bloated browsers.

If it was as simple as deleting random things without understanding them I think those forks would perform a lot better. You can remove a few things and some forks do but eventually you cut into what modern web browsers do.

its not entirely related but i have a couple of lite browsers under 10mb which i use for some different things on mobile
mostly to keep myself organized or try mitigating site data from one place ( online retailers, the news,) seeing what other websites i still have open (lainchan) and i can delete their data without deleting everything
a lot of websites return me unsupported browser error even though the apps are fairly modern
i take apart my media player and i delete pretty much everything besides the codecs
in most cases you can pretty much gut the whole program besides the essential parts
anyway i doubt that after taking apart the firefox for pc that there is truly 2gb of nececcarry programming in the firefox even if some of it is nececcarry and i fail to see a good reason it wants so many of my rams when it didnt want them fifteen years ago
also the update agent is a scam

Why use one browser per website?

I have Firefox with a dual core cpu and 4gb ram and it runs fine idk what your talking about.
>(32GB minimum, but honestly 64GB+ these days is starting to be the minimum for a workstation).
Lainon, what do you run on your computer that you need that much ram?

NTA, but I'm a game engine developer that runs Gentoo on a Ryzen 7950X and an RX 7900 XT. 64GB of DDR5-6000 has been pretty useful to me.

Doing any sort of real work or hobby stuff on a computer nowadays starts eating up RAM fast. If you're doing a lot of art then that means you've got a 3D modeling program, a raster editor, a vector editor. If you do video editing then that's going to eat up tons of it. LLMs or GenAI junk eat up tons of RAM if run in main memory, but it's faster to run it on GPU(s). Game development of course can get up there too, you probably will be using a level editor at least and need to test run the game a million times. Compiling multiple large programs can get resource intensive. If you do a combination of all of the above plus your everyday stuff like watching videos partially cached in memory RAM usage can be pretty high and all your background services. Maybe you have to run interpreted environments like Java or Smalltalk ones with all the GUI bells and whistles for a long time, that takes up a bit more. You might be running lots of VMs for some reason. Music production with a DAW and lots of instruments and effects can start climbing in memory usage too. Also a browser with 200 or 400+ tabs does too, and running multiple browsers at once.
Plus I don't think you want to experience thrashing so you want some leftover space, although OOM killers graduated from completely useless to kind of works. So 64GB is actually not much at all anymore. It's surprising they didn't start moving away from that 128GB limit on consumer hardware before.

change reddit.com to old.reddit.com
avoids that reddit ass verification page
if on tor hit ctrl+shift+l 10 times until its not a blank page

You should make your Firefox extremely heterosexual. This will make it be less of a self absorbed lazy glitterboy that's secretly selling your data.

if you end up on a github file while JS is disabled, change /blob/ to /raw/ in the URL to see it
Roy Batty · 2025-10-19 05:35
when firefox has its daily "new version!!" popup you can close it with alt+m
took me forever to figure this out because with lots of window managers the popup jumps all over the place
also you should know about alt+shift+<some letter> which is they hotkey to do anything in web soykaf. for example on lainchan you can press alt+shift+s to submit a post

I thought a better alternative to firefox would be using something along the lines of librewolf

never use bonappetit.com, it cant show recipes without JS. blacklist it in your host file, any other recipe website is fine. and once you enable JS it shows a popup, then after that it says recipes are only for subscribers. of course its easy to bypass, but its not worth the time since you can just go to the next recipe website in 1000

when you need to see the current version of 100 web pages you saved 15 years ago, you can usually get the original URL from the HTML file, stored like this:
><link rel="canonical" href="http://originalsite.com/lolol.html" />
Zero Cool · 2026-01-04 15:31
>an autistic retard made a website with inverse colors or tiny text

Koichiro · 2026-01-22 07:24
Always disable JS when using tor for heavy browsing. Otherwise, every single page you open will have a cookie popup, newsletter popup, and Google popup. Each said popup will take seconds to load and delay you even more from getting to the content. Buttons on the popups do not respond until after several seconds of loading. No-JS avoids loading all kinds of ad poups and videos too since webcυcks will never ever absolutely never just use a plain <video> tag.
Void · 2026-01-23 16:11
you can use sciencedirect.com over tor, you just need to keep changing exit nodes. then you'll get a cloudflare "click this checkbox" which defeats the purpose of using tor since they log your mouse movements to narrow down your identity, but whatevr
