Okay, this is going to be both a venting post and a cry of help.
I think I might be crazy, or fuarrrking going crazy. Bought my friends PC with a Ryzen 5000 something and a GTX 1060 6 GB. Nice, I like it. I also happen to have a laptop that's my boy, my daily driver, my little warmachine.
So I'll have to setup a way to make these two work together. And setup my PC.
Choices, choices. Too many choices. I have windows 11 and arch linux on the PC. I decided to stick with arch. EVERYTHING IS A MESS. Actually, maybe I'm the fuarrrking mess. I installed bspwm and made it work. Cool. Now I want a GUI. Did xfce with windows XP theme. Huh, no kill button on taskbar popup windows. fuarrrk. Also idk I haven't used XP in a lot of time. Installed DS2 with wine. Beautiful start menu and desktop shortcuts, with the bonfire icon. Did the same with proton, no bonfire ICON. fuarrrk. (It's a repack). I wish I knew how to fix this, without downloading a .ico. Cause wine's performance is decade's behind protons.
Bought speakers, can't get audio. Guess I'll just watch a tutorial on that.
Now, the real meat: file sharing. I want an easy way to share files. To create, perhaps, an ecosystem. Without too much work and with a GUI. Not ssh, that's wack and not suited for my uses. I don't want to rely on a cloud server. A software that allows you to upload files and download files would be nice, but again that needs a cloud. Aight fine, but I don't want onedrive or google drive. Also one is on linux and another is on windows.
Guess I'll have to settle for less than perfection.
P2P sharing would work as well though. I guess I gotta stop being lazy. Coulda just used a pendrive. Doesn't feel perfect though. Too many options. I'm drowing.
fuarrrk.
Finally, I wish there was a way to use the PC's resources on the Laptop. CPU. GPU. Performance wise. But honestly something like this will take too long to setup and probably not satisfy me in the end anyway.
If yalls know some solutions to these problems and/or pet peeves of mine. Please let me know. Posting on lainchan cause I won't be called a glitterboy.

>Desktop environment
Just go for KDE if you want a GUI environment Note that the official plasma-meta package lacks some basic features so you probably still need these packages.
Terminal emulator: konsole and probably yakuake if you like drop-down terminal
File manager: dolphin Image viewer: gwenview Decompression: ark, p7zip, unrar, unarchiver, lzop, lrzip Image thumbnailers: ffmpegthumbs, kdegraphics-thumbnailers Text editor: kate, vim or whatever text editor you like
>Playing vidya
Maybe try Bottles? It's a GUI frontend to both wine and proton
>File sharing
We have KDE connect, which allows you to share files between devices under the same WiFi. It also have Windows/Android versions
>Use PC's resources on the laptop
Please elaborate, what do you want to do? Like a remote deskop? A workstation?

Thanks for the reply. As for desktop environment, frankly I don't like KDE. Too many settings and too much menu diving, it makes my head spin.
For filesharing, KDE connect, I guess I'll try that. Seems like it'll get the job done.
As for resource sharing I meant something like, you know, making my laptop more powerful, using the resources of the PC. Like ubercharging from tf2 but with computers. Like how animation companies render their stuff using special server computers, but for system wide applications, like Reaper or firefox. I understand this might not be possible without VMs, which I do not want, and may have latency, which might make it useless anyway.
For vidya, proton gives good performance. I just add my game file to steam and hit proton hotfix. I was talking more about game desktop shortcut not having the appropriate icon.

Yeah, personally i just stick to linuxMint XFCE - super ez to install, encrypted with LVM for snapshot and all, everything just werkz.
Your time is much better spent focusing on actual projects, not constant debugging and pointless problem solving for extremely marginal (if any) benefits. Had enough arch tinkering years ago, enough for a lifetime. sheesh. We all love problem solving here, but some problem solving is much less time-valuable than other. Same reason i love nim lang - I can actually work on a project instead of keeping track of all the brackets and other gay soykaf. Make your work pleasant and you'll never have to work, or however the saying goes.
filesharing - localsend just works
shared processing - probably same as connecting to any other server? i'd guess ssh, anydesk, remote play, or use task-specific methods/solutions
