Defective GPU

I own an 8 GB Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ Special Edition (picture related, exact same model and color) which freezes when it runs at higher frequencies. Is there a way to fix it without soldering anything? I don't want to throw it away, I know it's old but it still does its job (if underclocked).

I worked at computer repair shop some 10 years ago and most of the times GPUs go bad when the temperature is so great that lead solder balls under the main chip or the wire legs on the silicon dye inside the main chip come loose They can easily be "jolted" by reheating and reballing (in my opinion the latter isnt really necessary, but eh, a lot of repair shops do it anyways) Don't go too hot, about 100-130 C for minute or two does the thing

>>86404 I've known the X360's RRoD and I believe this is how it happened. I got mine to recover by (IIRC) letting it stay on while failing but in horizontal position (son, if you can desolder you can also re-solder yourself!!!), and then leaving it horizontal on a table to cool for about 24h. It stopped happening, it worked until I sold it. Definitely clean your case / vents (air pump or compressed air bottle) / GPU vents / GPU fans and take your PC case off the ground if it isn't already... 10cm or more, depending on how dusty your floor is. And replace the fans if any don't work, maybe put them on full blast in software too. >>86408 I did like an hour of heating, BUT that was letting it heat itself.

>>86408 > They can easily be "jolted" by reheating and reballing (in my opinion the latter isnt really necessary, but eh, a lot of repair shops do it anyways) What do you mean? By the way, it's not a heating problem, although I don't know where to get those light blue thermal pads.

Its either degraded from having too much voltage put into it or its somehow got a bump defect, try >>86408 If that doesn't work then your die is rooted and you'll need to step the clocks back to keep it stable, no way around a degraded die
