Hello /Ω/!
Does anyone please know about an image organizer that doesn't change the image file while adding metadata? I've heard about a program where every image gets a "card" that tags along with it and where the metadata is stored.
Preferably free, or at least not a subcription service.
Thanks in advance!

digikam has an option to write metadata to "sidecar" files only. These appear on the filesystem as filename.jpg.xmp files and use the Extensible Metadata Platform format (basically XML). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Metadata_Platform

Thank you, dear Lainom! :3 Exactly what I was looking for. And I never even knew what XMP is.

Booru software would do the trick nicely.
Also, there's https://tmsu.org/

Any lainons using Hydrus Network? Worth it?

tmsu is great since it integrates quite well with regular shell commands, a la tmsu files goon_material | while read line; do img2sixel $line; done Just never ever break those file paths. Personally, a drawer-like mental model of where my rare frog is stored wins over eventually anyway to be honest. Too much work.

I tried Hydrus, and setting it up without Docker was a pain in my assholes. Also, the code is a mess too.
I am now tempted to write my own Booru, and I had the database done but I stopped working on it due to motivation issues. Maybe I'll pick it up soon again, who knows.
