Why did Firefox's Maximum DNS setting stop working recently? It appears to break Firefox as a whole i.e. no websites load at all anymore. Is it a bug? Or is this feature enshitified i.e. paywalled?(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

you should set up encrypted DNS systemwide
install unbound and point resolv.conf to localhost

Never mind. I ended uninstalling Firefox because of their weird change in Terms of Service. I couldn’t decide on Mulvad or LibreWolf, so I got both of them. However, I use LibreWolf way more often. Mulvad is way too similar to Tor, so I just Tor when I can. Of course, there are plenty of other threads on Firefox alternatives already. Mods & admin, feel free to delete this entire thread and all the posts since it is no longer a relevant discussion to this board. Thanks!

Their ToS is just a phrasing change not a real policy change.

Based informed lainon

Not only similar, a fork. I think the idea is to use Mullvad VPN with Mullvad Browser, resulting in many similar browser profiles like Tor Browser.

I dont understand what this means. The browser is similar to the Tor browser so that causes you to use librewolf? Makes no sense. I use both interchangeably to try to manage my fingerprint but mullvad browser seems strictly superior

Not that lain, but I think they meant that they use Tor browser when one could use Mulvad browser instead, and therefore only rarely use Mulvad browser. As a consequence, they use Librewolf more than Mulvad (but less than Tor browser, presumably).

Librewolf is gay, I found mullvad browser to have more based defaults.

NTA, but I run my own DNS server at home which has a fowarder to quad9 using DoH and DNSSEC. I'd rather my browser not interfere with that personally.

I do this too but I actually like having the option to use a custom DNS just for Firefox. I have a self-hosted DoH server running on a spare VPS which I use specifically with Firefox to get better routing for Google Video when watching live streams because they deliver different servers depending on which IP address you query from and always return garbage servers when queried from my home, even with googlevideo.com set to forward directly to dns.google
I blame my IPv6 tunnel (which I don't want to have to use but my ISP doesn't support IPv6 and I need this). They don't like it at all.
